Austin American Statesman: Big 12 "is done" ... Texas has 3 realignment options

The "Big 12 is Done" article from Austin American Statesman
quote:
They [Texas] don't want to be independent, and the one thing they do know is their conference options are about to be reduced by one. If the Big 12 implodes, Texas would have to decide between pushing for membership in the Pac-12 or Atlantic Coast Conference or turning independent, an option Dodds has always strongly opposed.

The ACC would be a disaster for Texas. If they are worried about time zones then the big 10 is their best option.

And the Bovine 9 is down to seven.
I guess Dodds and Beebe had better get on the phone with Rice, Houston, SMU, North Texas, UL Monroe, and UL Lafayette. Hey, UTSA has a team now, and that would be an easy roadie from Austin!

What would happen if Texas comes to SEC

Funny thing is that SEC is not mentioned as a possibility...too much competition for longhorns? It appears they are the USC of their conference and like being the favorite each year.

Sweet.
We don't want Texas in the SEC so I'm glad to hear the feeling is mutual.
A&M plus a 14th school to be named later works just fine for me.

I was talking to a friend of mine this morning who is in A&M's administration. The administration at Texas feels that they are too strong academically to be in the SEC. The culture of their administration is essentially a better fit for the Pac 12, however, they don't like the scheduling scenarios for that conference.

Forget UT/SEC. The issue that started this mess is still hanging on UT's neck. SEC is an equal equity sharing conference & would not accept the LHN in its present form.
What position will the PAC & ACC take?

This is terrible for Texas. What a colossal frick up it'll be if they end up in the ACC.

Do SEC fans REALLY want to add OU, OSU, Texas, and A&M. Seriously, we'd have to go to a damn playoff format, SEC teams will basically eliminate each other from the BCS. Never understood the logic of adding a bunch of power/ranked teams unless we go to playoff format.

lots of "sources" being mentioned...obviously, this article has an agenda...the authors are Kirk Bohls & Alan Trubow...
Stu, what's the background on these guys? Are they mouthpieces for UT?

Sorry for the senile moment.
Let's remember that the ACC TV deal is with ESPN

Talk about long road trips in either of those conferences. Just not great geographical fits either way. But I don't feel sorry for Texas at all.

we don't want the assholes anyway. they are a fine school academically, esp their post graduate programs and their research programs but they would not even be #1 in the sec and possibly not #2. but, they are too good for us.

I would have an eternal boner if they wound up in the ACC

I think they would be #2 behind Vandy.
Who would you say would be #2?

because you will still only be playing 8, 9 conference games tops. 1 team will win the CCG.
