Don't flame me
I made this comment last year during the Auburn game and everyone at me but it happened once again tonight...a lot. Our guys like to lay the wood wayyyy too much and I think it's going to bite us in the arse at some point. They leave their feet and try to knock the ever living shite out of the ball carrier instead of just wrapping up. I'm all for getting the big 'OOHHHHHH" hits...but I'd rather make the tackle every time.

That said...this defense is downright nasty. Can't wait to watch these guys again. I found myself excited when the offense got off the field so we could see more defense

as sound tackling in space individually, and as a unit as any I recall.

open field tackling was out of this world. I just also saw a lot of hits rather than tackles. I'm not crazy I promise

LSU had one drive where they missed 3 or 4 tackles.

The rest of the game was VERY good talking. There is a reason LSU shut down James.

I thought your guys played tough and were sharp. I didn't see anything like what the OP described. Good game.

I agree it cost us during one series. But the net result of laying all that wood was a shell shocked Oregon team for most of the game.

I agree, and as the season progresses it could get worse. Also, LSU was microseconds away from some personal fouls tonight. Love the aggressive play, but at some point it is gonna hurt.

I dont know why people like to tell themselves they didn't see it. I saw it a few times but mostly when the game was in hand...

thats the jest of it, I think you see it more when it is the second guy to the ball. First guy stops him and the second cleans him up. It results in a player afraid to get hit and making mistakes. Very underrated imho.

I thought tackling would be a problem, but they really cleaned up on technique. I like the intensity to the ball, like you said. Oregon looked small compared to our defense. Once they knew the ducks were weaker than them they just tee'd off on them.

Has the same effect as a quarterback getting rid of the ball to quick, a running back that stays to the outside instead of cutting up field or a receiver that wont jump as high for a pass - intimidation.
