Instead of joint venturing on a television network with Texas it was offered last year

Is this true? Did Texas originally ask A&M to be in on it with them?

Whorns on meassage boards keep saying that, but I don't really know. A&M's official position was to seek a conference network that would benefit more than one or two schools, but Texas made that impossible.

When there was talk of individual school networks, most people were thinking of distribution rights, not an actual stand-alone 24 hour network airing volleyball games.

It's he said-she said type thing. Knowing our AD, who has a reputation for squeezing every last dollar out of everything, I have a really hard time believing he would turn down that kind of money, but who knows.

I think they did, but to an extent. They asked if A&M wanted to create a joint network, but with most of the costs being paid for by the two schools. That is completely different than the current LHN, where ESPN picks up the costs. UT didn't ask A&M to join in on the LHN, which is what the UT people are trying to imply.

They approached Byrne in 2006 I believe about a joint network. From what I've seen the focus was more about getting smaller sports(everything but football and basketball) on tv. I'd assume 3rd tier rights with football/basketball was discussed.

Supposedly, Byrne was mad because Dodds offered an uneven split of revenue. Also, he believed it wasn't feasible because neither school had the production capabilities at the time to launch such a network and earn enough revenue to justify costs. Byrne approached Dodds last year, probably because ut and espn were negotiating, but ut said they were too far in the process.

Byrne didn't screw the pooch like it has been made out to be. Logistically it made no sense, at the time.

Yea except it was 60-40 favored for t.u. Once again sip propaganda trying to make A&M look like the bad guy.

Got a link for the split? I've never heard nor read anything that says discussions got that far.

AggieAlphaMale posted a video of Byrne speaking to his local club sometime in '09 or '10, in which he addressed different network issues in detail. Might be interesting to see again, knowing what we now know about the Longhorn Network.

It was all just rumor. There was never much publicity about it. The only official statements came from Dodds/Byrne.
