Are we really that worried about Darron Thomas running?

Before you Oregon jackholes start bitching, I understand that he's an athletic, mobile QB.
But last season the dude wasn't exactly a run first guy. He only had 3 games in which he had over 10 rushing attempts, only one of which did he rush for over 100 yds.

I suppose my point is, with a passing QB, shouldn't we expect to see a lot more of them attacking the flats ala N. Carolina (lots of tight-end routes and passes to slot receivers/RBs) than we would read-option?

He really doesn't appear that fast to me, I'm sure Randall has given our D more than a fair enough look in practice! But after the Auburn game I did gain a tad more respect for his passing ability....the only thing I am worried about offensively with the Ducks is their screens, shovel passes and maybe draws....their option read should be snuffed out pretty easily!

I don't see him running much, esp. when he gets a few shots. He will dink, and dunk, mostly. We need to jam their backs, cover, and make him run!!!

Why does a "dual threat" quarterback have to run all the time? Especially when you had 2 of the best rb's in the country and an extremly experience recieving corps. Plus he can just flat out chuck the rock.

You have a really good point. I think most Ducks were surprised that Kelly didn't run DT more last year. I think it was about protecting the QB from hits and tossing to some decent recievers.

Who was the other RB you included in the '2 of the best' statement?

You should NOT worrry about his flat out speed. He is not going to run for 60 yards on you. However, you have to respect the run against him because he will get 7+ yards if you chase the rb on the backside the whole game and don't stay in your lane.

I expect him to run more this year. Really looks like he was reigned in as far as running goes after Costa went down vs. UW.

Also we lost our most experience qb who was our back up and after him was a true frosh who we were trying to save him for a redshirt. You don't run your #1 out there and get him all banged up, plus Thomas's knee wasn't completely healthy last year.

We shall see. Those normal windows are going to be alot tighter. I expect alot of dink, dunks, short crossing patterns to challenge our lb's(our weakness). If he starts airing long balls, which I doubt he has time for, he's going to make mistakes, but I think that will be only for effect.

Darron definitely runs less than Masoli and Dixon. This is by design. One, he is not as fast as the the other two former QBs. Two, less chance of an injury.

However, its all about how your Defense chooses to play the read option. Your Defense could key only on James and force Darron to run.

Consider yourself educated.

Yeah. Apparently he has been throwing dimes in fall camp but we'll see. He missed some throws last year but they were uncatchable for anyone.

I am actually concerned about our WR getting seperation. We really have to get the short passing game and running game going.

570 yards is enough to be considered 'one of the best' in the nation? Back-up RBs almost always have a higher ypc than the #1 back.

Kelly has been coy and quiet on Huff. He missed most of camp. He has only played in pads a few times, if memory serves. I honestly do not think he will play. But, I wont be surprised if he does.

He missed some games due to a nasty concussion.

Barner missed some time with a concussion but had 1000+ all purpose yards. I would call him a very good #2...as good as it gets.

Watching an interview the other day Huff gave a "company" response that made me think he was going to play but wasn't letting anyone know.
