Btw, I am from Oregon and have never noticed crawfish on the menu unless it had a southern niche.

Seafood in Oregon = salmon.

does not compute

And that's why I started this thread. Granted most Oregonians go for other species of fish.

Here's today's menu from Jake's just to give you a little idea of the variety.

Oh, what Portland is known for is 2 things.

1. Micro Brew capital of the world
2. Strip Bar capital of the USA

Strip bars are full nude and serve all alcohol. For those that are 18, there are strip clubs that are full nude just no alcohol.

my favorite food from the northwest that i had when i lived there was the Dungeoness crab. love those things! but i did em way different than people were used to up there. Boiled em just like crawfish or crabs down here. The locals were amazed!

You missed the most important part...do you have to drink that much so your mouth doesn't burn up? The point was the seasoning, not the drinking.

From the festival's activities page:

quote:

You have to see this contest to believe it! How many crawfish do you think a person can eat (tail & claws) in 15 minutes? The festival record set in 1970 is a whopping 170!

you could ask 1000 people from south la what they think of when you say seafood, and I would bet zero would say salmon

I'm tired of salmon. I started eating crawfish in Oregon about 50 years ago. Admittedly, I think most Oregonians would opt for Dungeness crab, or salmon over crawfish, but we do have them and they've been a part of Oregon food history for a very long time.

I have an uncle that guides and holds the record for the largest salmon in the clackamas. I have eaten salmon every which way it can be prepared. I still barf a little thinking about the salmon pie grandpa made us eat as kids.
