So who died at the ending of this episode?

Don't know.
I'll go with Lou, based on being at the door, and his scenes in the episode and Black Shawn for the tragedy. There was at least 2 coffins in the preview. So easy to say Tommy, with all the build up (the letters) so I'll go with the opposite, and say he lives.

I think it would be a fitting end for Tommy to die next week. I'm suspecting that Lou is one of the person who will die in the fire.

Think its Tommy. Remember the the comment that Shelia made to Janet that she could not Janet's friend because Janet had something that Shelia would never have - her husband coming back? Might be a little foreshadowing at play.

Gotta be Lou. I'll admit there must have been some onions around me when Lou was reading his letter from Tommy.
I've always thought the show would end with Tommy doing something heroic to save his crew, so he could be the second coffin.

Since Tommy has been the one to see ghosts throughout the series, could it be a sort of 6th Sense type of ending? Has Tommy been dead the whole time????

"As we were getting ready to shoot it, I was thinking that I know that son of a bitch Dennis enough to expect that if I'm going to say 'And that's the way it,' he's going to go, 'Yup!' so he can have that last line. But he didn't. He let me have it," he explains.
Read this article, with this quote from john scurti, who plays "Lou". Lou did have the last line in this episode.
It kind of tells me that, either last week was the last appearance of Lou and Tommy, Ghost Lou talks to Alive tommy, or Lou and Tommy live.

Where the frick was Tommy going when Lou told him they would be fine? Was he going to try and head off and find another exit?

I think it was Lou sacrificing himself by holding the door.

*** SPOILER ****
Tommy off camera... not in the funeral scene?
quote:
"The final scene that we shot, without giving anything away, is a funeral scene," he said. That this scene exists has been seen already in previews for the finale, airing Wednesday at 10PM ET on FX. It's the next line that may be telling. Leary concluded his thought, "I was off-camera that day."
