We lost or starting QB, WR & LG all within a couple of weeks before the season opener. Watch how this team comes out to play and you'll get a better understanding why Les, goofy as he may be at times, is one of the best in college football.

Good post. Dworarcyk(sp.) is def. going to be the biggest hit in my opinion, but like you, I have faith in Les that he will have our boys ready.

I really hope LSU wins, but if Les loses, how much do you think he would be worth?

When he loses less than two games per year and wins the WEST and SEC without the help of other teams falling over themselves then he will finally have earned his 3.7 million...

JJ and Shep are of little consequence one way or the other to our chance of winning by the way...see here...

It's an Insider article so you won't see it all without an account.

Excerpts:

Take last season's LSU victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide, for example. Though the Tigers outgained the Tide last year, Alabama's offense was able to punch in for three touchdowns while LSU's offense sputtered on multiple occasions and only crossed the end zone twice. In terms of raw offensive efficiency, LSU "lost" the head-to-head matchup against Alabama, meaning that if both teams had faced off with equal field position all day, the Crimson Tide would have won by a decent margin.

Instead, LSU won by three, 24-21, on the strength of a field position advantage of more than 10 yards per drive. The Tigers had three drives start in opponent territory while Alabama started every one of its drives on its side of the field. Better field position leads to better scoring opportunities, and the value of a short-field scoring drive belongs to the defense or special-teams unit that created it.

It wasn't just the Alabama game. For the season, LSU defensive and special-teams units created more short-field opportunities than any other units in college football last season. The Tigers started 24 percent of their drives in opponent territory in 2010, and only 11 percent of its drives from inside its 20-yard line. Those were the best marks in the country and the main reason why LSU was able to win 11 games last season with a less-than-stellar offense.

LSU outscored its FBS competition by a total of 127 points in 2010. According to our value distribution methodology, the Tigers' offense only contributed 15 points of that total season scoring margin. The defense (60 points) and special teams (52 points) chipped in the rest. Of the teams that contributed the most total non-offensive value last year, none relied on non-offensive scores as heavily as LSU.

The only reason any coach makes that much money is to win championships, be it conference or national titles. Miles has won both, which led to his salary.

Therefore, by winning this game, Miles is only doing what is rightfully expected of him...winning games on the biggest stage.
