Home built duck blind (scissor)

So I thought I would start a thread detailing my experience building a scissor blind from scratch and maybe urge those tossing around the idea.
First I picked up this boat, trailer and motor for $1500, a steal in my opinion. The boat is a 15x42 Alumacraft (2010) no leaks, the motor is a 26 hp go devil, runs great, and an older Dill trailer (everything with papers).
I started with 3/4" electrical conduit (~7 12' sections), 8 x 3/4" elbows, 16 unions, 2 D pin clips, 8 x flat pre-drilled T brackets (to use for hinges on the boat ribs), 4 brackets that are used to fasten the conduit to a wall when used in electrical installations (U shaped, I then drilled and bolted them to the primary side rail of the scissor blind to use as a hinge to fasten and allow the second upright/extension to pivot, I can provide more detail if requested) a cheap black ratchet strap to restrict the movement of the second fold out, 4 x 1" to 2" pvc necks to support the sides when open (I cut a groove into it that would fit the conduit and a v on the other side to wedge against the boat gunwale, if anyone wants ill snap a pic of that but it can be seen in the pics bellow), a nylon volleyball net for backing the grass, and grass from Academy (got it for $25 for 4 4x4 sheets). All in all it has cost me just shy $300.
I then proceeded to cut and fit the scissor blind.
as the blind opens it is supported on the sides in the middle and at each end with a D clip that fastens through both conduit pipes. The blind opens as follows:
We then wrapped the conduit in black duct tape to minimize the silver color and help prevent weathering. We then subsequently zip-tied the netting to the scissor blind (sorry no photos). We then began to mount the grass, using tons of zip-ties. This is the final product, I am very happy with it.
I would like to thank everyone on this board for your information and support getting myself and nerdguy started duck hunting last year, this is what your information has led to. I am now a fully addicted to duck hunting and in some part I owe a thanks to the generosity of the OD board.

Thanks, thought about using bimini clips but they were hard to find, pricey, and just didnt feel as strong. I may not respond immediately but if there are any questions about the construction I will reply tomorrow... Work starts at 6 tomorrow...

It was listed on LA sportsman. The guy was in TX when he listed it but lived in LA. I called and he said he has several interested but they haggled... I told him if it was what he said, when he returned I would give him $1500 he was asking. Thought it was a long shot but it panned out. My wife was of the opinion that it wasnt that great of a deal... I told her she was crazy... of course she isnt a hunter

you got a helluva deal. Ive been trying to find something similar and there is a lot of junk out there. Ive been wanting to get more into duck hunting as well, I can count the times I have been duck hunting on one hand. Growing up in BR duck hunting was always considered a rich mans sport, but now I can afford it

I would have jumped on that boat at that price. We still haven't bought a go devil, haven't really been looking in a while though. Hard to find a deal on one that hasn't been beat to all hell.

crazy thing is I thought I would just start looking and within a week I honed in on this boat. Good timing I guess. We hunt public land and this opens several more doors. We paddled in last year in a 12x32 then would get out, wade, set ducks, set up a temporary blind, hunt, pick it all up and drag arse back in... Gave me an appreciation for the hard work that goes into wading... We will be spoiled now. There are a few WMA's close to BR that you can wade in and hunt if you are interested. Pomme de Terre (sp) is one. Good early and late morning hunting, the middle fills up with spoonies...

The bottom is a bit soft and at a few points run up to your middle stomach but if you go slow it really isnt a problem. nerdguy and his brother-in-law waded all the way in once... Are you a lone hunter? or have a group that want to hunt?

I built one using pretty much the same stuff last year. Only difference is that I have a piece of conduit in the front and back going across the the boat. On that piece I have some jaws to place the blind in. Did that because I didnt want any pieces on the floor of the boat.
