According to Broyles, A&M in the SEC helps Arkansas

Frank Broyles was interviewed this week on some local sports radio show and he stated that he thought Arkansas could see a "15% increase in success if A&M joins the SEC". Not sure what that meant other than he thinks Arkansas recruiting would improve in Tejas as a result of increased exposure in the local media down there.
That makes sense, as we already get a lot of students from North Texas. Telling baseball recruits or gymnastics recruits or whatever else that they'd get to play in Texas at least a few times per year might help us out.
Also the local media exposure will probably help us, having SEC sports covered on the local stations, and us being the closest SEC school to DFW (apart from A&M).
I still would prefer the SEC to remain as is, but I can see how it might help us out more than any other SEC school to have A&M in our conference.

(yeah that logic is extremely flawed, I know)

Its funny that every school thinks having A&M in the SEC will improve recruiting. That's including A&M. Either UTa is about to be in trouble or half of us are wrong.
Odds are it'll be the same as always... whoever is winning gets the recruits

The freshman class at Arkansas this fall is already about 25% Texan.

I lived 5 years in Dallas and I know it was somewhat frustrating to not find SEC coverage on FoxSports, etc. I did see a few blurbs about Arkansas on the local newscasts, but usually only if we pulled an upset.
I'm not sure how much traditional media really impacts today's kids, though. And since most SEC games are already on TV, playing "close to home" is less important than its ever been.

And I think the point Broyles was making was that increased exposure in Texas will help sports across the board...women's soccer, gymnastics, etc. I actually think it might hurt baseball to have A&M in the SEC. The SEC is a draw in itself, playing in front of 10k plus at LSU, Arkansas and Ole Miss. If Texas kids can go to A&M and get to do that, we might get fewer of them up here.

Frank is probably right. But I think he sometimes has a problem with seeing the "whole equation". Teams can only recruit "x amount" of players each year, but it is of paramount importance to also have a high caliber recruiting program with high caliber personnel to compliment the opportunity of landing potential recruits, or nothing changes for the better. It's the same with a head coach. As long as we have a top notch coach, (Petrino), we'll be competitive, but that's only part of the whole equation.

He lost touch in the 90s when we joined the SEC. Crowe. Ford. Nutt.

I'm more curious how Jeff Long, Bobby Petrino, Mike Anderson and DVH view the situation.

ah, majored in statistics? instead of 50% of us being 100% wrong, i lean toward 100% of us being 50% wrong.

I am too. I'll bet that we'll be hearing some things before long. If they've already stated their positions on the matter, I haven't seen anything, as yet.
