I was lucky enough to hunt in the 10 point days when you were limited out before eight(and a mallard hen just happened to be the last duck you killed each day). It's all about the dogs, birds, and friends(some gone) now, not the numbers of birds killed.

this brought back some nice memories to me....

I started hunting ducks before the 10 point system. Back in those days we had a lease out of Hopedale were there was a red light just pass the last boat landing. When you came in and the light was green, you were good all the way north to New Orleans. Yellow was that there were a gamewarden in the parish and red there was one at the landing. Back then, gamewardens didn't go on the water.

Hell, you know we didn't feed the ducks. Lets just say that 3 weeks before the season somehow a easy 2000-3000 lbs of corn would fall into each pond on our lease. Dam ponds were GOLD!

Then you had real lead shot which killed ducks that cost you $15-$18 a case. Those were the days. Before that,my Dad use to use a blunt gun mounted in his pirouge and would sell the ducks in the quarters. It was legal back in the day to do that. Oh, he use to make his own decoys which I wished I had them, but Katrina took them away.
