Interesting take, and yes, I know most of you don't care what June Jones thinks.

quote:

With Texas A&M's renewed efforts to join the SEC, SMU coach June Jones now sees the future alignment of college football as inevitable: Four 16-team super-conferences.

"It seems to me that’s where it’s headed. It still has to happen. I think, though, within the next 15 to 24 months that will take place," Jones said Monday at SMU's kickoff luncheon at the Hilton Anatole. "Money drives all those decisions and those are all BCS schools, and if that’s what they want to happen, that’s what’s going to happen."

quote:

Jones said he believes the SEC slowed things down only to allow itself time to secure four schools and make one major announcement instead of doing it one-by-one.

quote:

Picture this shakeup as a potential realignment scenario -- and, mind you, this is pure speculation -- in which A&M and, say, Missuori, Clemson and Florida State complete a 16-team SEC.

i hope he is wrong about 16 team superconferences.

14 teams is the limit for me. you still have a reasonable rotation in the league with 14 teams and 9 conference games.

I like it at 12, but also like the idea of adding A&M and another quality team. But I don't think it stops there. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't stop at 16.

I don't. I hope the SEC adds about 6 power house programs only to make the "FINAL" statement that it's the best conference in the land. No arguments!!!!

I don't think anyone would argue that it isn't already the best conference in the land. Just lok at the trophy case.

agreed....nobody claims that the SEC isn't the strongest in the land. Trophies back it up.

16 makes it tough without a playoff system. 14 is a good # IMHO.

We need a playoff system if we have that many teams. Its going to screw the SEC if we only keep 2 BCS slots also.

14 is the limit for me too. i embraced the idea of super conferences for awhile but after much consideration, i have changed my mind and really don't even embrace 14 anymore. i guess a playoff is being set up by the back door method. there will be a 2 game "play off" in each conference to qualify for the 2 game nc playoff. the teams not in the superconferences (top 64) are gonna have to suck it.

If the SEC goes to 16, I'd like to see the conference broken down into 4 divisions.
