please quit suggesting Tulane-ish schools

I like VT they fit right in the SEC. Decent program.

I do find it amusing that some of the people who trash Tulane constantly are suggesting Baylor and Rice

I keep reading complaints on this board about how difficult the conference will be if A&M, OU, FSU, etc. will be added, how we'll end up with Texas and some ACC/Big East school in the BCSNCG every year while a 1-loss or 2-loss SEC team gets overlooked even though it played against better competition.

Also we've heard about how Baylor is running scared that a Big 12 collapse may leave it in the land of C-USA or MWC, or worse Sun Belt or even the Southland Conference. I know Vandy is a charter member, but like Baylor it's the only private school in the SEC -- does it secretly harbor a fear that the SEC may dump it for a football power that brings in lots more $$$?

My Rice suggestion is only semi-serious -- I know it isn't and won't ever be in contention for an SEC slot -- but given its generally weak athletic department (save baseball) it would alleviate the concerns about an overly-aggressive schedule by giving SEC teams an easy win. And it would alleviate any Vandy fears of being tossed aside, by giving it a fellow private school member.

How about three? This gets you to 15 schools, which you can then arrange into three five-team divisions.

You would then play every team in your division, one designated rival from each of the other two divisions, and one other team from each of the other two divisions in a rotation. You would thus play every SEC school over a four-year period (though not home and away, but in eight years you would). You would have three games left for OOC opponents.

The three division winners and the second-place team with the best record (head-to-head if a tie, otherwise highest poll ranking) would go to a four-team playoff.
