I know currently they are not as bad as tulane, but at times they have been. They are not long term big time schools. They have periods of success against weak opposition!

the school that the SEC wants in the East is Va tech....it would bring in the DC TV market

I like VT they fit right in the SEC. Decent program.

Adding Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and DC would make the SEC an economic machine...

I do find it amusing that some of the people who trash Tulane constantly are suggesting Baylor and Rice

Basketball-wise Louisville would be huge for the SEC, they could play UK twice a year too...
ETA: their FB program is far from Tulane-ish. 3 bowl wins in last 5 years, including Orange Bowl, also they won the Fiesta vs Miami in the 90s.

Tulane went undefeated in the 90's. 98 I think.

Yes 1998, Tommy Bowden left after that, they hired Chris Scelfo instead of OC Rick Rodriguez, return to suckage immediately begins.

Arkansas vs Louisville had some really good bball games in the 80s i think, along with UNLV, UNC, and Duke they were the powerhouses.

Yes and no. Maryland is in suburban DC and gets most of the local coverage in the DC media and there's Georgetown and the Ivies and east coast coast schools where there's not a lot of interest in college football and the fact that many people to DC are from other parts of the country and then there's UVA and Penn State.
DC is a pro sports town and for college sports hoops gets a lot of attention. Yes you get part of the DC market with VaTech but it's still 90 miles away

I keep reading complaints on this board about how difficult the conference will be if A&M, OU, FSU, etc. will be added, how we'll end up with Texas and some ACC/Big East school in the BCSNCG every year while a 1-loss or 2-loss SEC team gets overlooked even though it played against better competition.
Also we've heard about how Baylor is running scared that a Big 12 collapse may leave it in the land of C-USA or MWC, or worse Sun Belt or even the Southland Conference. I know Vandy is a charter member, but like Baylor it's the only private school in the SEC -- does it secretly harbor a fear that the SEC may dump it for a football power that brings in lots more $$$?
My Rice suggestion is only semi-serious -- I know it isn't and won't ever be in contention for an SEC slot -- but given its generally weak athletic department (save baseball) it would alleviate the concerns about an overly-aggressive schedule by giving SEC teams an easy win. And it would alleviate any Vandy fears of being tossed aside, by giving it a fellow private school member.

If we add one, we've gotta add two. Which is why I would want Clemson and North Carolina (even though they said that they would not go to the SEC).

How about three? This gets you to 15 schools, which you can then arrange into three five-team divisions.
You would then play every team in your division, one designated rival from each of the other two divisions, and one other team from each of the other two divisions in a rotation. You would thus play every SEC school over a four-year period (though not home and away, but in eight years you would). You would have three games left for OOC opponents.
The three division winners and the second-place team with the best record (head-to-head if a tie, otherwise highest poll ranking) would go to a four-team playoff.
