I keep hearing this thrown around, what's the story behind it?

I'm pretty sure they would've sued us if that was the case

Early termination after 1995 game? I haven't heard much of it. It would cost more to sue than what they'd get.

Just googled it. Something like $400k. Some of the Texags people were pumped when the Cotton Bowl was announced. Thought they would whip that $ out of LSU. That didn't work out so well.

Haha. It was $400k for breaking the contract. LSU claimed they didn't break the contract because they found us a suitable opponent to take their spot. USL. A&M didn't think USL was up to par and sued. But had to sue in La court. Not going to beat LSU in a La court

To top it off we lost to USL. But 2-PAC died that day and our players were too upset to focus

ETA: now give me my money!

If Iry Lejeune would have died that day we would have kicked their asses instead!

FTR I think we won 66-0 the next year

True dat.

And as pussified as Joe Dean's buying our buying our way out of the A&M series may have seemed at the time I think the 2 crystal footballs we added to our trophy case since ending the series with A&M coupled with the fact they are practically begging the SEC to take them make that pill very easy to swallow.

I remember flying back to Lafayette the day after and seeing the destruction on the football field at USL. Apparently, the fans carried the goal post out of the stadium.

Wow. Yes, they did:

For most members of the Ragin' Cajuns' 1996 football team, the lasting image from then-USL's 29-22 upset victory over Texas A&M remains the goal post.
Students and fans swarming the field had already torn down the south-end post, and another group headed toward the north end for a similar prize. Meanwhile, those with the south post faced a dilemma.

"They tried to get it up the tunnel, and it wouldn't fit," said then-assistant coach Gerald Broussard. "So they just went up the hill."

The natural bowl of Cajun Field couldn't contain that kind of enthusiasm, as the student army took the post up the steep slopes, passed it over a metal fence and eventually out into the nearby streets.

basically over 20 yrs ago, lsu axed the series with a&m and some of them claim we owe damages ranging from 300k to 500k. it was the last time they were any good and right before they got nailed (for the 7th time) by the ncaa. it was a legitimate disagreement whether or not we owed them damages; a number of teams have canned games with lsu and we simply find a replacement as did a&m that year. their admin. doesn't seem to be bothered about it but, at least imo, the texas psyche just can't handle anyone "messin' with them" so some of their fans are still pissed off. in fact, they are making shite up and passing it on their to children so the hate can continue to be passed on to subsequent generations. kinda like the "remember the alamo" thing. except this is the "remember when the inferior cajuns stiffed us". fortuneatly, most aggies are more mature than that but the loud mouthed ones persist. and, by the way, i stand by every word of this explanation and swear it to be the honest truth and no one can revise the facts to make me believe otherwise, no matter how "superior" they tell me they are.

A&M really likes to bitch about programs that are superior to them. It's like they're Arkansas.

The Cheatin Texas Aggies were on probation so often in the late 80's and early 90's we got tired of never having a chance to get on TV.That's why we drug up.Boy, are they bitter.

we got out of the series cause Curley/Gerry couldn't beat the ags and that is a fact. Both complained about opening the season vs such a tough opponent. LSU scheduled Hoston and had to pull a miracle out their butt to win that, Faulk went crazy

I sure do not miss the days when LSU went cheap on their coaches

I'll say that when a team cheats, can't be on tv sometimes, and beats you, that's a perfectly good reason to cancel the series. I don't have any sympathy for the Aggies there. frick 'em.
