On phone so no link but just go to collegefootballtalk.com and it is/was first story. Rumor has it aTm will have to pay a penalty for leaving. Remember tomorrow won't be right now. Sec just must appear to be appoarch by aTm after they leave big 12 or else they open themselves to being sue. Also what's to say the presidents didnt say they give permission once appoarched?

yeah that's what Chip Brown from the Texas Rivals site is saying.
Even Aggies don't trust him, lol.

$30 million exit fee
I find it hard to believe A&M would have agreed to any type of pay out of that magnitude last year when all of this was brewing when Nebraska and Colorado departed. They were in a position of strength at the time and new that they had a good possibility of bailing in the near future.
That may be money they would potentially lose by leaving not Aggie dollars to pay to leave. If htey join the SEC they get SEC dollars to replace those dollars.

A&M doesn't get an invite until the 14th team is on board as well. That is way up in the air.
only in 3 weeks if someone has been picked and the details have to be worked out. so far there are no rumors flying.

$30 million exit fee
They had to borrow $12 million from the general fund just to cover last year.

here's a good anyalysis i saw on rival on the legal ramifications:
quote:
"If there were indeed threats against the SEC by Dan Beebe (and I do believe this was likely), we need to consider a few factors.
1. The Big 12 can't successfully sue the SEC for tortious interference with its contract with Texas A&M. Why? Because its contract with Texas A&M expressly entertains the possibility of A&M's withdrawal subject to a liquidated damages provision in the form of a TV revenue deduction. You can't get there on interference with a contract that is essentially at-will on A&M's part. If A&M wants to leave, it can. Whether the SEC encourages that or not is factually insignificant.
2. The Big 12 can't successfully sue the SEC for tortious interference with its television contracts, either. Any harm to the Big 12 would be too attenuated to be caused by anything the SEC did; in fact, the Big 12 permitted an arguably stronger historical partner in Nebraska to leave without incident and without consideration of the impact on potential TV revenues.
3. Whose money is Dan proposing to spend, anyway? If you want to twist off and sue the SEC for $1BN, you're talking about $2MM in legal fees easily. Do you think Iowa State's going to chip in? How about KU? It's preposterous just to think about it. The Big 12 HAS NO MONEY that is not generated by and divided among the conference schools. Sure, the Big 12 pays Dan's salary and pays for its space on 114 in Irving. But that's about it. There's not a shite ton of overhead.
Do you think, in this economy, those schools are going to want to commit the money to what is, at best, a dubious legal maneuver? Get serious.
By the same token, there is no LEGAL significance to the actions taken by the SEC today (to-wit, "Jump in a circle while touching your nose, leave the Big 12 and then we'll invite you). There is no prophylactic protection from suit provided by the SEC saying, "You have to leave first." The Big 12 can still try to sue them, no matter what the SEC does.
The importance from a business standpoint, as far as I can tell, is this:
1. We, the SEC, are the premier conference in America.
2. We are not in the business of looking stupid.
3. Get divorced from your current conference to show us you mean business.
4. Pursuant to our prior discussions, we'll grant your application thereafter.
Think about the BUSINESS ramifications of leaving A&M hanging for the SEC. How could it add any premier teams after making a major collegiate institution look stupid for working its arse off to get into the SEC?"
