I wasn't at the game, but my little brother was selling cokes that night in TS. He was probably around 14 then. When he got home that night he was so happy. He said one of those crazy drunk tiger fans had given him a $20.00 tip. Back then, that was pretty good money for a teenager.

I've always been curious myself why that game has never received the status of the 1979 USC game.

Call it a prelude to the USC game.

what is strange is how similar those two teams wound up being ... we went 6-4-1 in 1976 and 7-5 in 1979 (not counting the mississippi state forfeit in 1976 ) ...

The '76 LSU-Nebraska game in TS was a night game. For those thinking it was an afternoon game my only guess is that DST had not reverted back by the standard 7:30PM KO such that there was some daylight lingering at the start of the game.

Thanks for all the comments.

Excellent game, I was in the 10th grade at that time and Tiger Stadium was rocking (not as loud as the USC game in the fall of 1979) but definitely electric. I believe Rusty Domangue either blocked Nebraska's extra point or caused the kicker to kick wide but anyway they had a touchdown with a missed PAT and we had 2 field goals. Unfortunately, Rusty got into trouble later that night but is now a preacher and a wonderful person. Shuck those Huskers Tigers.

I was in the north end zone when we missed that fg it was wide right if my memory serves me correctly and it was less than a foot off.

We played them off our feet that night

I was a drunk Soph,

Sorry to bump this old thread, but this was a night to remember. I was 9 years old and Dad and I sat in the south end zone. As I recall the disappointment over Conway's missed FG at the end (and it was plenty long - couldn't tell which way it was wide as it was at the north end and at an angle) lasted maybe all of three, four seconds and then the crowd just went fricking NUTS as the Tigers came off the field.

What I really remember is quite a few folks all decked out in red walking out with the most stunned, shocked looks on their faces - and "TIGER BAIT! TIGER BAIT! TIGER BAIT" as loud as I ever heard it in my life. It was as if all 80,000+ people were all screaming it in unison.

It was my first game as a freshman. A night game but hot as hell waiting in line early to get in. Nebraska was #1 coming in so crowd was hyped, but not up to USC '79, which is gold standard IMO. As others have pointed out, Rusty Domingue blocked a kick to save the game then stabbed someone in Tigerland after the game.
