Does our defense have issues with the zone-read option?

Oregon fans say they see chinks in our armor, what do our resident experts say?

Bump one of the 20 page Oregon threads. Of Course we have problems with it. But they have never seen a secondary like ours.

what is the definition of zro?

Well, the Auburn and Ole Miss games do stick out. Honestly, I think your defensive ends get out of position at times and the rest of the team struggles to get off blocks and has sloppy arm tackling against these types of offenses. But, with this much time to prepare, who knows? It's going to be a great game.

Since when? Who beat us with it? I can think of a couple teams that a Chavis defense was burned with it, but nothing consistant. I also remember that we were going to get blown-out by GaTech's triple option, and all the rah-rah about it, but that didn't work out too well against SEC speed. Now a Big/ Physical QB, running it, might cause anyone problems.

Another intresting variable: Tharold Simon, not Tyrann Mathieu will be starting at CB opposite Mo Claiborne. This gives us guys with massive wingspans and elite hips on both corners. Both of thee guys can shut a receiver down in man coverage. We'll be stacking the box vs Oregon and with Mathieu free to roam inside, this Defense should be very hard to crack.

i googled it; how is it successful if the DE keeps contain? does that force the ball to be handed off most every time?

The QB is reading what the DE does. So if the DE keeps contain it turns the play inward where there are more tacklers.

Meh...one is out of the shotgun, The other a makeshift wishbone. Option is all about making reads.

Defending the Option is all about covering your man, our disruptive DE's should be able to keep everything inside and as stated above, CB's and Safetys should make ANY qb thing twice before throwing the ball...two 4.4 DE's, TM4 and RB13 i dont think anyone will have time for a second thought

Very true. The difference is an entire offseason to prepare instead of a week.

Auburn and Ole Miss had more than just the zone read in common.
They both also had very good offensive lines.
Oregon has three new starters on the OL, that struggled against their new starters on defense in the spring game.
I think it's quite unlikely that Oregon's line is going to come close to Auburn's or Ole Miss's in the first game of the year.
Doesn't mean we won't struggle...but that's a huge difference.

While true, Auburn was the national champion and Ole Miss is a huge rivalry game. Like you guys and OSU...record books go out the window in these.
That being said, I have always thought that we struggled more with the read option. However, we have weeks to prepare for this, compared to just a week.
Should be a great game...

Outside of Nevis we didn't have much d line penetration. Our defense was good due to good coverage and well executed blitzes. Blitzes don't work as well vs the zone read.
With our inexperienced linebackers I bet we run a lot of 4 2 5. Hopefully we tackle better than we did vs ole miss and auburn.

So much fail in this post.

Lots of assumptions going on in this statement.

It's a good thing the fans don't coach.

Well, duh! I was just giving an example of a team we weren't supposed to be able to defend. Again, this is all just speculation. LSU is young, and you get us right off the bat. IMO, this gives you a slight advantage/suprise factor, but we are very fast, and I mean across the board. Much faster than the AU team you played. If our D-line shows up, it will be a long day for Oregon.
