If you couldn't find good food, you were probably looking in the wrong places. How could you not like:

Italian Market, Cafe Vermilionville, French Press, Johnson's, Charley G's, Jolies, Agave, Pamplona, Cafe Habana, Pop's Black Pot, Ruby's, Creole Lunch House?

Lived in Laffy for awhile, and frankly was surprised it received the award. While I had good meals at Cafe V, Charlie G's and Pamplona, they were very inconsistent - probably due to a high turnover in chefs. What Laffy does have is a large number of very good "plate lunch" type of restaurants: Dwight's, Creole Lunch House, Ruby's,etc. Last I heard, Pop's closed about 2 weeks ago. But, hats off t the city. Should do it some good with luring tourists.

I was born and raised in Lafayette and have probably lived over half my life there, on and off over 42 years, so yeah, I think I know where to look. Most of those places on your list are good to okay, none are great. As another poster pointed out, one problem is inconsistency. I've had some very good meals at Pamplona, and I've had some that were shockingly amateurish. That experience has been repeated at most of the white table cloth places in Lafayette. My biggest gripes with restaurants in Lafayette are that they're lazy, do things half assed, and there isn't a lot of variation in the menus. Plate lunches are a strong area for Lafayette. My point is that there are some good places, no great places, but I don't think the place qualifies as some kind of food mecca. Many homers tout Lafayette as the kind of place where you have to look hard to find bad food, and I think it's just the opposite.
