It's easier to talk about best players in a generation rather than comparing them across generations because of how much the game changes. Messi and Ronaldo are easily the two best of their generation.

then resurrect his 2008 form for a few years all at the same time

His form this year was pretty uncanny. Since joining Madrid, he has 66 goals on 63 appearances. That pretty unbelievable. He gets overshadowed because Barca's form lately has been even more note worthy.
This year he broke the previous la liga record of 40 goals in a season. He also became the first Real Mardid player to get more than 50 goals in all competitions. He scored a goal in every 70.7 minutes of la liga play also a record. He also became the first player to win the European Golden Boat while playing in two different leagues.

Per wiki. but he is definitely in form. While i still think Messi is the better overall player/ teammate, These two will prbly go down as two of the greatest of all time barring injury

I'm curious, who else should be named as the greatest players of this "generation". I'll make the cutoff Kaka's birthday - April 22, 1982 - making Messi and Ronaldo the only WPOY winners born after that point. Ibrahimovic, Villa, Gerrard, Terry, Ronaldinho, Xavi, and Casillas are among the players born in 1980-81 before that date.

It's tough to determine generations.

Rooney would make your list. Along with Torres, Schweiney and Tevez.

Look, CR will go down as one of the top 3 players of his generation. He is undoubtedly, in my mind, the best goal scorer in the game today. GOAT is harder to decide.

winning the world cup wont prevent either from being one of the greatest but it will hurt messi more because of the talent surrounding him on that team

Can't argue with those numbers and he is my favorite player so maybe I am being a little rough on his past few seasons. I think he has become a much better goal scorer in terms of finding the net but don't think he is as "dangerous" from all areas of the pitch as he used to be in 08. I still think in terms of best players in the world today its Messi, Cron, then everyone else. But also like messi he really has a hard time showing up in big cups for his national team
