Florida Speckled Trout 5 fish limit

The limit is five trout per day and only one can be over twenty inches. Here's a pic of my catch from yesterday in Choctowhatchee Bay. All fish caught on top water Mirrolure 7M, black back, orange belly and gold flash sides (7M808). We ain't even gonna talk about the ones that got away, but that's topwater trout fishing. Largest fish was a grunt over 20 with the smallest 16 inches.
Try using the 7M like you would a popping cork. A popping cork with hooks.

Nice catch. That limit is total bullshite by the way. Im glad I can catch trout all day in LA and not really have to worry about which ones to keep over the legal size.
ETA: Is that a G.Loomis greenwater rod I see?

Nice haul. I would never have stopped at 5, but to you for keeping an honest hand.

Nice catch. When I fish in FL, it's tough to only keep 5 trout and only 1 red! But, that being said, I've caught more big trout in FL than LA overall.
BTW, u can't keep trout at all in Feb!

I'll be sure to stay out of the water come February and its below freezing temperatures. Took some convincing, but you got me.

I called to book a inshore trip for the family in Destin last year when we went. The girl that answered the phone asked me where we were from and where I fished......I told her we were from N.O. and i fished primarily out of Venice.
She then informed me of the limit and cautioned that we might not like the trip because of that. I agreed so we blew it off. I know CSB

I knew the limit was 5 trout per person, but I didn't know you could only keep one over 20 inches. Between my dad and me, we probably kept 4 over 20 inches each day

Yeah, a Greenwater, lightweight for an old man.
I'm from Louisiana and fished there before size & creel limits. We had tons of trout. I also fished in Florida before limits and the trout fishing sucked. What turned Florida around was the gill net ban and size limits.
Just to let you guys know how good you have it our size limit is 5 trout, 15-20" and only 1 trout over 20. Completely closed in Feburary. The limit drops to 4 fish in south Florida. RegsLINK /
A good day fishing in Floor-da is a bad day fishing in Lucy-ana.

I'll be that way during the winter to catch some reds for sure from the yak. Do u live around there? What's the fishing like during the winter? Do the trout and reds go further inshore?

I would love to do some yak fishing in the winter time. I'm also seriously thinking about bringing the yak on some duck hunts.

Yeah deacon, I'm about 30 minutes north of Choctawhatchee Bay. Trout and reds usually spend the winter in the rivers and bayous. In the winter they are deep just like Louisiana. Not my favorite time to fish. Late October and early November you can find them on the flats depending on the weather. Usually they move back onto the flats on warm days in March getting ready for the spawn. March, April, May are my favorite times to fish. Snoop and poop in 1-3 feet for big sows is the best. Perfect for a yack. Summertime fishing the dock lights is suppose to be the way to go. Hope to do some this summer. I think your base of operations is over near Navarre so maybe I would suggest the mouth of East River, the Yellow River and Backwater River. I haven't fished that area YET..so many bays...so little time.

probably why so many people fish out of yaks there
I put 300 specs in my freezer from 6 days of fishing this month, that's a lot of days fishing in Florida.
