So that college wrestler with one leg...

I've been seeing articles and television segments about him for a while, but it makes me wonder. Wouldn't it be harder for other people to wrestle against him since they only have one leg to grab for? I'm in no way trying to belittle is accomplishment or the hard work and perseverance that it must have required to do what he has. So my question I have for those that have wrestled, would him having one leg offer any advantages for him? How amazing is it that he was able to go undefeated with only one leg?

You talking about the guy with amputated arms and legs?

I dont know, I think its an advantage and disadvantage. But i always like him watching him tear people apart. I would think that it makes him slower to move pushing only with one leg, and that leg tires out very quickly

You get to wrestle in a lower weight class for his strength since his leg is gone. That is certainly an advantage.

Didn't think about that, good point.

There's also no possibility of getting 3 PT takedown since he is already down. But some on this board during the NCAA meet didn't seem to grasp that. I feel that is unfair to opposing wrestler.

While there are definitely some advantages, the disadvantage of only having one leg far outweighs everything else. Just try to wrestle or take someone down on only 1 leg.

Your argument is void considering that he has been like that his whole life. It is 100% natural to him.
Also, he has only wrestled guys with two legs, while basically none of his opponents have wrestled a guy with one leg.

So you actually believe it's an overall advantage for him to wrestle against guys with 2 legs? Ever wrestled before?

I heard there's a one-armed man in an arm-wrestling league. He has a huge advantage over the other guys.

Absolutely. He has wrestled guys with 2 legs his entire life, but those guys have no idea what to do with him.

He turned a disadvantage into a huge advantage and good for him. But I hated how ESPN played it up like it was the upset of the century.

we had a guy in high school wrestled in #138 weight class summer of his fresh or soph year he lost his leg in a boating accident. His new weight was first year back weight was #112 his senior year #119. So you have the upper body of a guy 2 to 3 weight classes heavier yeah its fair.
He only has one leg and he is black so whatever the answer its would be racist and insensitive.

I'm 6'. It's unfair that people are taller than me. Its hard for me to be in the NBA.
This kid's misfortune has turned into am athleti advantage. Good for him. /thread

He would be SICK in MMA! He could fight in the 125 division and he can bench like 350. He would be so much stronger it would be really interesting. There is already a really good 1 leg MMA dude in AZ and it is REALLY hard for people to land kicks w/o him grabbing their leg and taking them down. If Robles could do this he could be an MMA champion because NO ONE at that weight could hang with him on the ground.
