To be completely accurate, you'd need to measure not only the level of competition of each team's opponents, but the opponent's level as well.

For example, shutting out the top offense in the country doesn't mean squat if those numbers were put up against the likes of Shoo Fly U, Little Sister of the Poor, and Rent A Win State.

Had this same argument with the Tacklebox U fans prior to the Cotton Bowl. They were posting fancy graphs about how their defense had shut down better offenses than ours, and how we'd never seen the likes of their offense.

Remind me again how that turned out?
