His offense as a whole is pretty dynamic...and yes, Dana will call the plays this year...

That's interesting to read. I knew it would be his offense, but Sumlin differed from Leach in that while Leach was at TTU, he was taking "suggestions" from Holgerson.

At Houston, Sumlin wanted to let Holgerson call the game and he wanted to be the head coach and manage the game and the team, so to speak.

Gundy knew enough to GTF out of the way for Holgerson last year (think of it as a rich stock-car racing owner hiring the best driver and then shutting up & letting him do his thing). But to hear Holgerson will call the plays is a bit of a departure from his HU & Okie State stops & more of a reuniting a TTU theme.

Not doubting his chops as a playcaller or as an innovator. I absolutley think he's great. But, lipstick on a pig (and I mean no disrespect) is still...well...you know...

reason he wants to call plays this year is he was brought in to put his stamp on this offense...he wants to do that and get it fully installed...next year, the reigns will be handed to Shannon Dawson (Louisiana native, BTW)

All of his offenseive coaches except 1, come from this style of offense...

Shannon Dawsom ran the identical offense as Holgorsen at Stephen F. Austin and goes way back with Dana

Robert Gillispie (fmr Gator RB) was the RB coach at Ok State

Bill Bedenbaugh was the OL and asst Off Coord last year at ARizona and has a background in this offense from his days with Holgorsen in Iowa...

the exception is Daron Roberts, who coached with the Chiefs and Lions in then NFL...Harvard Law degree on top of that...but even he has ties to Holgorsen from when Dana was in Houston...

this staff is exceptional in my book, and theyre all on the same page as a coaching staff can be...
