Concacaf 2014 WC qualifying actually already started.

I guess I can get into that to kill some time.

These are some craptastic teams.

I'm predicting a match on either the 3rd or 2nd of sept against either Spain, Poland, Switzerland or Norway (or maybe it was Denmark...), but that is just me looking at what nations have a Euro qualifying match on the 6th but not 2-3rd (like Belgium has on the 2-3rd but not the 6th)

USSF won't make an announcement until it is 100% official with contracts or anything

I remember Ives saying that a friendly against Costa Rica would come around the Belgium match.

Not sure if that has been made official yet though.

Costa Rica? I hope that's not the case. I also really do not want to play Spain unless we absolutely have to in an international competition. I like playing stiff competition, but playing those top 5 teams in friendlies can get ugly.

Curious to see if we'll use two different squads for these two matches.

Friday, 9/2 - Carson, CA
Tuesday, 9/6 - Brussels

I looked, and there is no precedent for this sort of split in the Bradley era. The "fall friendlies" are either both in the US, or both in Europe.

It would be really shitty to drag the Euros all the way to California, and then drag them back, especially in the first month of their club season.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a Mexico/US based squad here, and a European squad there. Or perhaps drag just the Guzans, Lichajs, etc. (the non-starters) over.

I hope next year the USMNT comes back to Nashville, or any other city close by.

Still can't fathom why we need a friendly against Costa Rica. As if we never get the opportunity to play them.

I guarantee the match against Costa Rica will be all MLS players or young prospects.

No way in hell they send the first team there shortly before the game in Brussels.

This is what needs to happen. I think we're all ready to see some new faces. The youngsters need time together pre WCQ 2014

Why?

What wholesale changes are you expecting in World Cup Qualifying? Apart from Cherundolo, Bocanegra (and to a lesser extent, Donovan and Dempsey), all of whom are expected to be starters all the way through qualifying, the rest of our team is pretty young.

I would imagine you would see a Donovan/Feilhaber/Agudelo/Ream type team here, and a Howard/Dempsey/Dolo led team in Europe.

The young guys will get their opportunities (like they always do) in January and February.

If you're expecting Luis Gil and the Joe Gyau all-stars, you're going to be bitterly disappointed.

I wasn't talking about drastic changes or anything, I just meant that the young guys need as much experience as possible so that they can be effective in WCQ for us. I like our current guys, I don't want the team to suddenly become the U-23 guys.
I also forgot how much of a joke the 3rd round of WCQ is

It's a little different, this time around.

We skip the home and away (which was Barbados last time), and go straight a three team group.

US, Mexico, Honduras, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Cuba(?) are already in that, and three teams out of the rest of CONCACAF (realistically Panama, El Salvador, Canada, Guatemala and T & T).

Hopefully, we'll get Cuba and Canada (or Guatemala), but it's also possible that we could end up with Costa Rica and a tougher team like Panama or T&T (or El Salvador). That would suck a lot.
