Brad Turner: Shannon Brown is going to opt out of his contract, per his agent. Brown will become free agent. Will still consider the lakers. about 28 minutes ago

Demps tried to sign him last season, so maybe he'll be interested again.

Getting him and Vujacic would be great additions to our back court.

Probably the only laker player I liked. He is just so damn athletic.

Shannon Brown has great energy and floor awareness. He is also a better than average defender and rebounds well for his size. Has the ability to make big shots to. I would rather have him than Marco on the floor.

I didn't like how he got away with nearly elbowing Jack iirc. But I do like those hops.

He only made $2 million last season. He's not a star level player or one of the top rated SGs available. He'll follow the money, which will probably be a good bit less than $5 million.

I dont think he has been given the minutes that could make him a semi-superstar yet. The shot is there at times but his athleticism blows belli out the water. Good price, good starter or your next 6 man.

I'm still not sure if he's even close to the answer for SG though. This article from a Lakers ESPN blogger doesn't make him sound all that special, at least not starter special.

quote:

No doubt, Shannon arrived in L.A. an exciting and athletic, but flawed player, and remains the same to this day. His game has certainly improved, but his propensity to repeat mistakes on both sides of the ball were often maddening. Still, he ultimately made the most of a chance, which isn't always the case in the NBA, much less out of left field. As someone who got to know and respect Shannon, seeing that hard work and positive attitude parlayed into a legitimate career was pretty rewarding to watch. Even if he never quite developed as fans or the front office hoped, Brown's Laker story is a happy one.

We already have Beli and presumably can keep Green for cheap. Yes Brown has a different skill set than either of those 2 but it seems like adding Brown would simply repeat last season's SG by comittee when we need a legit starter.
