Milsap on the trade block?

The Jazz talked about trading Paul Millsap on draft night, according to the New York Daily News.
After drafting Turkish C Enes Kanter third overall, the Jazz certainly have a logjam up front. Millsap did play the small forward spot at times last year, but it clearly isn't his natural position. With Derrick Favors and Al Jefferson also in need of minutes, a trade makes some sense. If no deal goes down, the minutes here may become cramped.

Thornton would be a RFA, as well.
Who else are you referring to? Let's hope it's not Brackins or the first round pick.

I'm so tired of hearing this bullshite line of non-thought that doesn't take the big picture into consideration. Peja was supposedly traded to avoid bankruptcy. The precarious financial situation of this team and the need to sell tickets was/is very real.
Without using DC to turn Posey into Ariza this team doesn't make the playoffs. Without trading that 1st for Jack this team doesn't make the playoffs. For those of you that think one and done is pointless, the team sold 1000 - 2000 season tickets during the season when it looked like they were a playoff team again. They sold 1000 more season tickets during the playoff excitement. If you like the Hornets in New Orleans there's your fricking value.
As for Thornton, most of us here loved watching him play and wish he was still on the team, but if West leaves and we keep Landry which is looking likely, how can you say there was no value to that trade?

I understand your frustration with some of the comments, but honestly if the Hornets can't sign West, which I don't think they will b/c West will go for the biggest contract, I can see this really blowing up and the Hornets will become this past year's Cleavland damn near over night. I'm saying that b/c I really do believe CP3 will leave if DWest is gone, and with ownership up in the air they will not be able to attract any FA to make up for the loss of both DWest and CP3. This entire situation looks messy and I believe the dominoes will start falling if the Hornets aren't able to retain West.

at this point, is that a positive?
if we had DC now, we MAY (key word) have a legit chip to trade for a guy like milsap
what did making the playoffs do for the team? nothing

the league wasn't moving the team once shinn shite the bed. we'll get 1 more owner to show our market can support an NBA team
there is no way stern would have allowed that big of a public embarrassment. that's why the NBA bought the team to avoid the embarrassment of bankruptcy in the first place

i always pegged landry as west's replacement
but we better get some other guys, b/c landry at the 4 with our current 2,3,5 = no chance for this team

yea, if baring our roster and losing west end up having the hornets leave nola, then we'd be in the same boat anyway. it's not a logical excuse for the DC/MT5 deals

I don't disagree. I think right now there's a 30% chance CP3 stays with the Hornets, a 50% chance he gets traded for a good rebuilding package and a 10% chance he walks for nothing (the lockout killing an entire season could be disastrous). That still doesn't mean people can turn their brains off when discussing things. I'm not asking for sunshine, I'm asking for people to think things through a bit more because it's often not as black and white as they think it is.

That's probably not going to happen. Stern has made it a point to keep the team in NOLA and if the new CBA delivers profitability like it's supposed to, a local owner will step up, even if he has to rebuild the team. Even that player friendly deal the players just rejected made teams profitable.
New Orleans has embraced losers before, they just have to be hard working and exciting. Watching DC and MT5 lose was entertaining. I'm sure Demps can build a fun to watch team with a couple of 2012 lottery picks and young players acquired via trade, and Demps looks competent enough to turn that into a playoff team in a few years.

then the bad moves with peja's contract, etc were in vain. if stern doesnt' want the hornets to leave, he doesnt' want them to leave

the big teams will have to be able to spend more to garner national interest or nobody makes money
do you mean revenue sharing?

i don't know if demps has shown anything close to this level of management yet

Yes. I don't think they ever get to a $45 million hard cap, it has to be done with more revenue sharing.

So far he's shown that he understands fit and that he won't overpay, but you're right he doesn't have much of a track record yet.
It could have just been a random number he threw out, or it could have been a freudian slip, but in an interview he was asked who he had been looking at and what position they got drafted and he said he couldn't answer that and then jokingly replied he got taken 5th. To me that says Jonas Valanciunas is who he liked most in the draft. Not important really but potentially more insight into how Demps thinks.

this just means the few teams who are annually profitable won't be profitable, and nobody makes money

and that he won't overpay
i'll give him this based on the DWest extension. 3 years is more important than $26M, but it was a solid starting offer. 3/$33M is probably as high as he should go. he cannot go further, imho, or we are dead

Boston might make a move to get him. They need help in the paint.

How do you come to these conclusions?

look at the ratings for finals without marquee teams

there are only a few teams who generate legit revenue outside of the tv deals. these are the teams who spend money (for obvious reasons)
if only 8 teams are profitable, and the majority of these are the aforementioned big clubs, what do you think will happen when they stop being profitable (by losing revenue to higher revenue sharing)?
they'll spend less, make less, and then the big teams aren't marketable b/c they wont' spend as much. then there aren't great teams in los angeles, chicago, miami, new york, etc and fans lose interest, nationally. then the next tv deal is shite and everyone makes even less
