But the OP said that really affected us. Losing McKnight didn't affect us picking up Ridley same class.

In the PAC-1.... Big difference,if he was in the SEC and there is no argueing that point. In fact, I remember him getting pulled several times due to his fumblitis. It would have probably been worse in the SEC.

Yes, but did it hurt LSU? McKnight was a product of John Curtis' historical rep. He didn't amount to shite in college or the NFL, so I don't call that a huge loss. In fact, I'd call Wallace a bigger loss than McKnight.
But you act as if he did nothing there. We certainly didn't need either Berlin or Eli to win a title but you would consider them losses at the time.
I don't disagree with you, just noting that he was very highly regarded at the time and we missed. The guy is a POS so he can just fall into the Janzen Jackson category of misses.

How about Travis Minor? I think it worked out for both parties. LSU was loaded at RB at that time.

Fair enough I was basically relying on the thread title.

McKnight was not an every down back, he always split a lot of carries. Ridleyh was THE back his last year and did out rush McKnight in his best year. I think he has a leg up on him in TDs too. McKnight got a lot more carries than Ridley his first 2 years, but we also had Charles Scott/Keiland Williams those years.

I agree, that it hurt at the time of the commitment, but in the long run McKnight was a non-factor. Nothing like in the 90's when LSU was losing athletes like Warrick Dunn, Brandon Mitchell, Ed Reed, Peyton Manning and the like.

It's what he symbolized. The #1 recruit leaving the state opened the door for others to leave.

Can we go back to Applewhite and Dunn days? Applewhite wouldn't have been considered a "can't miss" prospect but Dunn likely would fall into that category.

I think we were all worried about this but it hasn't come to fruition.

The last one was Joe McKnight, everyone was saying that he was the next reggie bush. Good thing he was a bust.

But, the thing is, the door hasn't opened. A few prospects get away, but nothing like the late 80's or early 90's. Yes, we've seen the likes of Robinson leave, but it really hasn't hurt LSU on the field, yet.

Like I said, LSU had Faulk, Collins, and Mealey then though. Dunn was a great player though.

How about Arnaz Battle? He would've been a starter imo.

Yeah but he was a beast at FSU and nobody can deny that we could have used his talent, we weren't that good then.

I've always felt he was very overrated and never overly impressed me at Notre Dame.

Yet he was in the NFL for a decade.

I would have put Jimmy Williams as a bigger miss than Battle.
