US Open Week

Posted on 6/13/11 at 5:42 pm
It's time to kick off the week that will determine the National Champion. Thoughts for Monday:
- USGA Executive Director Mike Davis is on record, according to the Golf Channel, as saying he wants the greens rolling 14.5 on the stimpmeter this week.
That's crazy fast. Will there be a repeat of Shinnecock if they get the greens going that fast?
- There are rumors that security has been increased at Congressional for a possible Presidential appearance on Sunday afternoon. Obama could be presenting the trophy to the winner. Political ideology aside, I think it would be really cool to see the POTUS present the trophy to the winner of our National Championship.
- The USGA is notorious for putting together groupings of interest. It's always fun to speculate as to what they're thinking when they put them together. Check out these groupings of interest:
Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy - the "people who have choked away majors"
Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen, Peter Uihlein - US Open, British Open, and US Amateur champions
Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer - 1, 2, and 3 in the world
Rickie Fowler, Ian Poulter, Hunter Mahan - the "guys who need help dressing themselves"
Henrik Stenson, Johan Edfors, Fredrik Jacobson - the Swedes
Miguel Angel Jimenez, Sergio Garcia, Alvaro Quiros - the Spaniards (Seve tribute?)
Francesco Molinari, Edoardo Molinari, Matteo Manassero - the Italians
Ryo Ishikawa, Y.E. Yang, Anthony Kim - the Asians and "we'll just throw Kim in, he's close enough"
And my favorite:
Charl Schwartzel, Trevor Immelman, Zach Johnson - 3 guys who have won the Masters and probably won't do shite else in their careers.
to the USGA. And here's to a great week of championship golf.

Yep, forgot to include that as a thought for Monday. I'm really hoping Scott does well this week just to see if there's any chance Williams would leave Tiger. If Scott were to pull out a win, you know he'll do whatever it takes to get Steve to jump ship. Would he be able to make it worth it for Williams? Right now, I don't see Williams leaving Tiger, but I wouldn't rule it completely out.

Yeah, I think Tiger and Stevie are just too close OFF the the course.

I would doubt it. Been with tiger for too long. Unless tiger stays hurt and on the sidelines during these tourneys he isnt going anywhere

So, you're saying Scott better know some broads if he wants Stevie permanently.

Here's another notable grouping I just saw:
Thomas Levet, Brian Gay, Gregory Havret - the "ehhs"

This made me laugh out loud.
But no, I just think Stevie is more than a caddy to Tiger and he wouldn't want to jeopardize their friendship. But hell, what do I know.

Probably not as much as Stevie knows about what actually happened with Tiger!

Oh to be a fly on the wall during THAT Thanksgiving.
ETA:
I will be interested in these two groups. I'm a HUGE Graeme fan and I could see Phil winning this tournament.

I'm really excited, Congressional is such an awesome set up. I went to most of Tiger's AT&T tournaments held there.

I don't belive this. They aren't FAR apart but its a JOB for Steve. He will go where he can work. Think about it.
