So, I just finished watching The Wire, which btw, may be the best drama series I have ever watched. I want to start another HBO series on HBOgo. For those that have seen all three, which should be at the top of my list?

It's probably practical to get the single season of Boardwalk Empire out of the way so you will be caught up when it returns in September.
After that, I'd just pick one and go with it. It's difficult to compare Rome and Deadwood as vastly different period works, but I enjoyed Deadwood just a bit more.

Deadwood. All are good, but Deadwood is my favorite. I can watch it over and over but I haven't had much interest in watching Boardwalk again.
I do rewatch season 1 of Rome, but not season 2.

IMO season one of Rome is the best of those listed, but I would probably watch Broadwalk to get caught up for the 2nd season

I have not seen Boardwalk Empire. Deadwood is a great show. Rome was only okay.

Deadwood was badass. A couple more seasons would've put it up there with The Wire and the Sopranos IMO.

I think a big problem with Rome's popularity is that most people know the general story line.
That wasn't the problem. The writing sucked and it was basically Forest Gump tours Rome. Just making the Romans vulgar isn't much an innovative (whatsoever, seriously, did they read the Satyricon?) or interesting take on the material. Had they told the story using say Ronold Syme's The Roman Revolution as a guide they would have done better than just retelling the standard story with tits.
I said that it was okay because it did have great production values.

I will admit some people don't like Deadwood but they are of course cocksuckers and loopy c*nts.
I love the language and all of the character minus the acting troupe that sucked the life out of every scene they were in.

you've taken so long making your decision that I decided to revisit Deadwood myself and I am already on episode 9.

Deadwood, then Boardwalk, then Rome if you're wanting it in order of quality. Deadwood is some fantastic television. The Sopranos and The Wire get all the hub bub, but Deadwood is right up there in the highest echelon IMO.

I guess it all depends on what time period you like most. I would go with Boardwalk first since there's only one season and it's awesome. It also has a shite load of names and talent behind it so it'll probably go far unlike the other two.
I haven't watched Deadwood, but I think the reason it's not put in the same class is because it doesn't have an ending since it was canceled. It's one of the reasons I haven't watched it yet. I'm not saying it can't be on the same level as the other two(like most, I think Firefly is incredible with only one season), but viewers aren't going to get the same satisfaction when it's all said and done. That being said, I'll be checking out Deadwood very soon.
