I don't think tOSU's sanctions will be as harsh as USC's. They probably should be, but the NCAA is basically a "do what we feel like doing today" organization that doesn't follow or adhere to precedent.

Dude, USC deserved what they got and OSU deserves the hammering they will get.

They should be.....Had the NCAA "investigated" the maurice clarrett situation instead of ignoring it they may have found the violations and just maybe they wouldnt be hitting the OSU program now.

"Deserves" is probably the most subjective word in the American version of the English language.
I think tOSU will get fewer penalties than SC.

As if you know a scintilla of evidence or facts about either case apart from media conjecture and what your NCAA momma tells ya...
keep following the herd, cow.

There will be Bowl ban and loss of scholarships

Honestly, you can say I'm biased, but if this is it (and I acknowledge it may not be) I don't think so. You can put this all on Tressel not taking action, not on the university.
Really? Wasn't the Univ referring people to this car dealer?
Besides, you can only claim you didn't know what was going on down the hall so many times.

yea, but most buckeyes are holding out hope that nothing will come of it.
the 50 players/families who were referred too have basically been clear from the looks of it.
of course your boy pryor shows up with that car yesterday so we'll see what happens

To put it eloquently, OSU is gonna get their shite pushed in
NCAA probably feels the need to make a splash to show everyone they are still Daddy.

the article's author had this to say
@georgedohrmann Why isn't anyone talking death penalty for tOSU? Many similarities to SMU. Media myopia like SI's Staples mentioned? #sichat
@LAAMSMrC No way. Not even close to as bad as SMU. And, IMO, USC, Baylor & Minn. scandals much worse. #sichat
the guy with inside knowledge def doesn't think sanctions will reach far beyond usc

I think you are wrong. The university was made aware of the car issue, and rather than investigate the issue the university's compliance department helped cover up the issue. This is what will bring the harshest penalties on Ohio State. They knew student athletes were getting benefits that violated NCAA rules, and they not only did not report the violations they attempted to hide the violations or claim no knowledge of them. And it was not a one time incident, but a pattern of non-compliance lasting several years.
The situation becomes even worse for Ohio State if the NCAA concludes that university personnel assisted the athletes in committing the infractions in addition to failure to report the infractions.

They should be but it remains to be seen what happens. Maybe if OSU is helpful in the investigation the NCAA may show some mercy. Remember the NCAA went hard at SC because they felt SC did not help at all in the investigation. Every school will basically do the opposite of what Mike Garrett did and hope for some leniency
Not to mention, they went and hired Lane Kiffin as a response. There couldn't have been a more royal frick you to the NCAA.

siliconvalleytiger Will tOSU's sanctions be worse than USC? They will not. Tressel actually took the fall as opposed to Carol who remained arrogant until he fled the scene. uSC was way too in your face about it all while OSU will be submissive and apologetic.
Agreed. All the allegations are against Tressel, not the university.
Tressel and the boosters providing benefits like cars presumably
there is a gray area the NCAA will have to decide on too... allegedly Pryor did things like show up at the tattoo parlor with 20 odd items to sell at once (tOSU athletic equipment).
If the NCAA is feeling vindictive they would be able to press on exactly why no one noticed him walking off with tons of stuff and no one ever said anything about it. That (and all the different cars he was allegedly driving) would allow them to claim LOIC if they wanted to go that route
Posted on 5/31/11 at 3:52 pm to Linkovich
No one here mentioned it, or maybe no one has seen it, but, have you seen the car Pryor is driving? I'm pretty sure a college kid can't afford one of those. And supposedly Pryor's not the only player with a nice ride. Stick 'em as hard as you can.
Posted on 5/31/11 at 4:16 pm to griz
If multiple players were doing this "loner car" shite like Pryor appears to have done, look for the sanctions to be at minimum = USC's punishment. It would've/should've been clear as day to anyone involved w/ the OSU football program that something wasn't adding up. Then add Tressel's non-compliance to NCAA rules on top of that, and it has to be > USCs punishment.

Expect a few more of these situations to arise throughout the year. Kids will be kids, and in the information age, it's impossible to keep everything under wraps forever.

I say DEATH PENALTY!!!! A message needs to be sent.
Posted on 5/31/11 at 10:31 pm to dukke v
I don't think the death penalty for tOSU is good for college football. I hate to see traditional powerhouses get slammed the way Alabama did in the early part of the century or (duh) like we are being slammed now.
It's supposed to be about "the integrity of amateur college athletics" but that's a joke in big time CF.
