When Kevin Faulk was recruited, Curley was out, Gerry was in. Gerry's first stop was to see Kevin in Carencro. This is partly true. A coach from the previous staff went in and talked with Kevin. Hes the one that sold Kevin on keeping his commitment. Gerry was an afterthought. When Kevin backed off LSU, A&M sent in a few people to Carencro, Mike Sherman (Yes their HC now). There was a big push to sway him West.

Another recruiting story involved the first LSU Football player to declare for the NFL his Jr. year. He had given a verbal to Fla. St. after a visit (LSU was never quite in the picture), with help from a few locals and a former LSU Player, this player started to open up to LSU. He committed to LSU on a conference call with LSU and A&M listening on the other ends.

Athlons College Preview has a section called "Recruiting Was Stories," you won't find these in there....
Thought some would enjoy.....

Boo Kennison I take it...I remember him saying he dropped FSU because they didn't remember the high school he went to or misspoke about it or something to that effect.

Faulk and Kennison were both huge gets for LSU when reeling in top 10 classes were not the norm.

I don't remember Faulk backing off. He wasn't committed anywhere when Dinardo was hired, and he committed to LSU some time after that.

ETA: And which class was Kennison in? 92 right?
