The Show RTTS - Base running

This is this first time I've ever played The Show and I just finished my first season in AA ball. I find base running to be the hardest and most time consuming part of the game. I never know where the ball's going or if someone's going to be able to catch it or not.
Also, I get the steal sign probably every other time I get on base, but I get caught stealing a lot. It seems like if I take more than 1 step off the normal lead, the pitcher throws over so I never get a good jump.
Anyone have anadvice, tips, or tricks for base running in RTTS? Or should I just set it to sim the base running all together?

I just got a PS3 and The Show recently. I'm about at the same point as you...a couple of weeks into Season 2.
I hated Baserunning. After a quarter of the season I realized you could customize what you control and immediately set Baserunning to Auto. Cuts average game time in half (unless I'm on a cold streak).

I did the same.

that's what I'm thinking I'll end up doing...I'm a lead off hitter and when I get on base with no outs, it feels like every guy after me has a 10 pitch at bat.
How do you go about doing this?

yea i used to have it set so that i only ran the bases if i was the lead baserunner but i always get thrown out because of a super human speed tag by the second baseman. and my guy slides in to the base so slowly that i can easily beat the throw and still get thrown out because i slide so slow and the tag is so fast

It took me a long time to master the base running... Once I got my speed over 80 it became all about patience. If I took a 3 step lead the pitcher would throw over, and a 2 step lead meant pitcher threw over 70% of the time. At one point I had 5 SB and 28 CS
Now I am routinely stealing 50-60 bases and getting caught 15-20 times with a 99 in Speed as well. It all comes from the jump, I do get picked off a good amount of times however.

I must get a better jump than you as my % is better than yours with considerably less speed. I never take an aggressive lead either
But I always practice the jump in the training sessions because I got tired of getting benched for being thrown out during failed hit and run attempts when the manager accuses me of stealing without the green light

This has a lot to do with your guy still being in AA.

i think my tv may have some lag or something because in training sessions, i can NEVER get a good jump
its always bad, and if i'm lucky, 1/10 might be OK

those training sessions are a bitch. I can get my best jump of the round, timing wise, and get thrown out. Then I'll have a jump that's almost a whole tenth of a second slower and I'll be safe.

Wrong. I didn't spend a whole a season in AA
Spent half of my second season in AAA and was called up to the majors

Well I know it's much easier to steal in the minor leagues......I guess you're some kind of Show all star
Maybe it's the difficulty you play on.

Nah he probably gets a better jump than me, that is the main key to it. I mean we can both have a 2 step lead but the jump is very important, also what pitch you run on. If you are like me and try to run on first pitch all the time, they probably throw majority fastballs since I play with computer IQ up. Of course I do not play it on hardest setting but I play on a medium setting and then adjust computer IQ

The jump is the most important part I'd say. On a side note, does it piss anyone else off that when a pitcher throws a pitch out while you are batting, the pitch speed is 3-5 mph faster than he throws his 4-seam fastball?

Don't even try it homie. I have owned every MLB the show title since 07 and play through about 10 seasons each year in my dynasty as well as my RTTS on legendary with the guess pitch turned off
I go through my struggles and never rage quit. Ive had plenty of seasons missing the playoffs and have only won it all a hand full of times in all those seasons in franchise, and never with one of my RTTS teams

seriously though, how many fricking games do you sim to go through 10 seasons each year
i cant even get through 5 seasons of RTTS before i'm bored
