That's usually the case. In LSU's case, it's hard to automatically make that case because the logo was changed in 2002 (as I recall) and LSU had just won the SEC for the first time in over a decade, and would win the NC the next year. Put another way, despite the fact that a great many tiger fans bitched about the logo from day one (I actually bitched about it from day -2 as I had gotten it e-mailed to me before the release) people bought tons of LSU products because the program was winning big time.

You took the words right out of my mouth, except that I wouldn't even try to "automatically make that case" because of the success of LSU in football since 2001--the kind of success never seen in one decade in LSU's history--2 national championships and 3 SEC titles. That doesn't factor the Final Four in basketball or the most recent baseball championship. Every year there are about 4 or 5 lengthy threads about the logo (that's not to say there are only 4 or 5 threads created, just that some take off--usually during dead periods in the major LSU sports--and go for 5+ pages). One such thread from a couple of years ago featured a comment from a person who said he had spoken to one of the higher-ups at LSU about the shittiness of our current logo and the higher-up responded with "Really, well we've experienced record merchandise revenue with the current logo." To which the poster responded that he estimated that the record sales were because of the unprecedented success of LSU football (and even basketball, to an extent) during the time period from which the new logo was introduced. Apparently the higher-up looked at him with a blank stare.
