Same thing happened in Missouri/Illinois. Farm land was flooded to avoid flooding a small town. When its population vs. wildlife...population wins.
Have you ever been to Cairo, Illinois? The drowned wildlife in the Birds Point - New Madrid Floodway led more productive lives. They fed themselves.

We got it... Cairo bad, BPNM Floodway farmers and wildlife good.
Cairo sucks. It's a decrepit, decaying and dilapitated town of ~2,500 lazy, unemployed, and felonious POSs waiting on their next Gubmint check.
In their infinite wisdom, and despite all evidence to the contrary, the Corps arbitrarily decided to flood 130,000+ acres of fertile heartland, bankrupting the poor farmers in the BPNM Floodway.
Ain't this a bitch?

Do you think they just flipped a coin and the BPNM side of the river lost?
