Interesting take from surveying front office personnel weighing the factor of the labor issues potentially squeezing the preparation time...

Saints—They might have helped themselves more than anyone for 2011. Cameron Jordan and Mark Ingram are preseason candidates for defensive and offensive rookies of the year. Not sure if Martez Wilson will be a quick impact guy, but Johnny Patrick could be. Greg Romeus, who at one point was considered first round timber, could even be a surprise.

----------
Romeus will be a physical condition issue. IF he is ready there is no doubt he will challenge for some snaps.

I think Tez Wilson starts at SLB in Green Bay.

I don't expect Patrick to moved ahead of Robinson as the nickelback. If he gets significant time, it would mean one of 2 things: another injury riddled year in the secondary or P-Rob may be a draft bust.

Patrick likely will make his initial mark on special teams. His athletic skills should boost both return and coverage units, which Saints Coach Sean Payton said would be points of emphasis this offseason.

Payton said the club will give him a long look at the all-important "gunner" position on punt coverage. Patrick also has return skills.

He was one of the top sprinters and long jumpers in the Florida prep ranks. He also starred as a running back, receiver, defensive back and kick returner.

Maybe he's referencing return game potential

considering every year of porter and greer's career have been injury riddled, i'd say its a safe bet.....

more than that gw plays a lot of subpackages and 3-3-5

Damn man...I am feeling so good about this season. We're working out together, we have a stable nucleus in a time of uncertainty, and it seems like we have an unbelievable class of rookies who can adapt better than most teams.

How can you lable some kid who was drafted as a project a bust after one year? Come on now, be serious.

I'm getting sick and fvcking tired of people talking about Solder being an immediate impact player simply because the Patriots drafted him. Solder will be in the hospital if they have Solder starting from day one. That guy is a 2-3 year project.

If a rookie CB drafted in the third round were to come in and jump ahead of a first rounder who has been in the system for and entire year, that isn't a good indication of progress unless the rookie is getting his playing time due to injuries. Keyword is MAY.

Isn't a starting tackle for the patriots going to be a FA?

I hope he isn't or at least just on special teams.

Ingram, Jordan, and Wilson all at positions that need infusions of youth, talent, and athleticism even if we had zero injuries at those positions.

Can't say the same for Patrick and corner. That position is really well off for youth talent and athleticism.

For him to have an impact on defense, at least in comparison to those 3 guys, would require bad things happening or for our D to run 4/5 corners constantly.

Nothing against Patrick, but I'll just hope that I never hear his name this season except for on special teams.

I think Patrick will be a special teams stud!

Everything I hear from this kid is pure passion and love for the game. I love the quote he had in the TP. Something like "If they ask me to play Offensive Tackle, I would jump in there in a heartbeat. Anything they ask me to do, I will do it!"

I don't know shite about Patrick, but CB was actually a sensible pick. They get a cheap dime back and if they like the way he and Robinson develop, it will really take a lot of pressure off in trying to keep both Porter and Greer (I hope both retire as Saints).

Don't forget about Jonathan Casillas. Was going to be our SLB last year. I believe it's between those two. Hopefully they push each other to be better all training camp (if there is one). Not a bad problem to have.
