I would like to have a nice dinner ( upscale- suit with open collar kind of place) but I do not want to kill my wallet since I am still in college. Any recommendations?

Depends on what you mean by this, but I would say Bistro Byronz might suit you well.

Tough to do if you plan on drinking a bottle of wine. How about some place downtown?
Little Village
Stroubes
Tsunami
what's your budget?

I never spend more than $50-$60 at LV if ordering the Italian dishes.. and that's including beer, village bread, and 2 entrees.
Of course, there are ways to get way above $100 as well. Keep in mind when they list the specials to you that the specials are WAY differently priced than the menu items, which are reasonably priced.
Also keep in mind.. I got a glass of house pinot noir and it was $12, which is insane for a glass of wine. Take a look at the list and get a bottle instead.. or if you prefer beer, their Abitas were $3.50 which was surprising.

Robertos, I hear is great for this kind of thing. Not sure of the prices, though.

Have you asked her where she'd like to eat or is this to be a surprise?

I second this. You can find the menu online and it's quite reasonably priced.

I've never been but I'm fairly certain it's casual enough for you, yet cute enough for her to dress up if she wants to.
It's a cute little barn.
Here is the website.

Well, as annoying as it was, LV is good for other things :) You can easily spend $100+ and easily spend under $50.
Like I said, last time I went my total was $48 after tax and we had 2 beers, village bread, and 2 entrees. Just depends on what route you take (Italian vs. steak or specials)

Try Maison Lacour's early diner from 5:30pm-6:30pm. It's four courses for $27.95 pp it has a nice intimate setting and the food is great.

perhaps it's a good deal for the price, i just don't think their food is anything special. and you better believe that for 12 bucks i'm NOT ordering the house wine. i'll pay 14 and get something decent.

I only ever get the Italian dishes, mostly lasagna because it's only $13. (The house wine is more than the food) hhahahahaa
And it comes with salad too :D

that's hilarious. do you think their bread is as good as advertised?
i would recommend the steak there but i don't think they have anything over 10 ounces.

I like their bread a lot.. I really do. But could I easily do without it? Absolutely. The mixture with the olives and shite they give you is what makes the bread good so.. meh.
I would definitely say it's overrated.
