Nah. I don't think there is some grand conspiracy. I did think they were holding the publish date until after the series premiere so they could catch the roll over publicity, but that's hardly a conspiracy. That's just marketing.

I really think George is just full of himself and a bit lazy. He's content to rest on his laurels, and more than a little intimidated by what he has created.

The way he treats his fans or they allow themselves to be treated is kind of sickening. The whole brotherhood without banners questing thing is weird. If he tried to send me out for pizza I would punch him in the throat. I've met a lot of authors in my day (my sis was the special events coordinator for Books a Million) and he by far is the biggest jerk I've met.

I'll read the novel when it comes out, but I'll probably just pick it up at the library or download it from the library to my nook. Like I've said before I'm kind of over multiple POV epic novels. I will give him credit where credit is due, but I'm honestly not expecting a whole lot from this book.

Well, this is how I see it...

The dude is a solid writer who's delivered some of the best reading experiences I've ever had.

He's in no big hurry to finish the series. Maybe he's not in love with the story and characters like he used to be. I can understand that.

Are people frustrated by all of this? Yeah. I can understand that, too.

But George R.R. Martin is the guy who controls the Starks and the Lannisters and all of those characters we love to read. It's going to get done when he does it. We need to let go of that.

Martin is big enough to where money won't motivate him, or pressure from fans or anything. Ultimately, that's probably a good thing, because he's going to tell HIS story and not what WE want or what his publisher wants. It's a great thing to be an author with the ability to say, "no" to everyone else's "great" ideas.

When the book gets here, if you want to read it, read it and choose to like it or not. If you've had enough of Martin's bullshite, don't read it. Martin has the power to create Westeros... but you have the power to destroy it (as far as yourself is concerned) by not giving a crap about it anymore.
