Am I the only person that did not realize this?

I added just a little bit of salt to the raw ground meat the last time I made burgers. I was up all night drinking water.
Today I bought some more and checked the label. There is already 70 grams of salt per 1/3 pound patty. I always assumed that the only ingredient in ground beef was ground beef.

A lot of corn is in there too, unless you get grass-fed.

What do they add to raw chicken? Or raw steaks? I'm a big label reader but the labels on raw meat are usually messed up with liquid.

Chickens are raised retarded from birth

If you put corn and grass in a field and a cow next to both the cow would naturally go for the grass first, not the corn.

Must have been the boxed, frozen patties. I read the lables on the frozen turkey patties and put them back. All kinds of crap in them.

Nope. It was from the Meat section of Albertsons.
Odd weighted packs of ground meat that was 85-15.
I got a pack that was 2.46 pounds. There was one other pack at 3.03 pounds next to it. Not in patty form at all.

All right, which of you Baton Rougeans is "OP" in this thread?
slickdeals.net: .69 or .99 cent per pound Ground Beef at Albertsons !
That thread is pre-Katrina, so this little urban legend has been going on a while.

I doubt you mean 70 grams as salt is listed in mgs and 70 is almost nothing. RDA is 2400 a day unless middle aged or with blood pressure or other health issues in which case 1500 is RDA.

I think it was 2.59; 85-15 which I like for burgers. I use 90-10 in most recipes and it comes in uniform packs for a higher price.

Buy a meat grinder and grind your own. It taste way better. Not even close. And you can pick out the meat and make sure you're not getting some nasty piece of beef.

what kind of cuts do you normally grind ?
