Louisiana with an 18 year old son

This is only partly food oriented, so I apologize in advance.
BUT, I'm not posting this on the OT and I like you people here.
I am bringing my son down for LSU orientation in June. Any recommendations for spending a fun weekend prior to orientation?
NOLA would be great for a couple-food, drink etc. but for an 18year old?
Thinking about gulf fishing. Any recommendations there?

An offshore fishing trip would be hard to arrange and very expensive for two people. Unless you piggyback on someone elses trips.
Beside a trip to the cost would take alot of you time if only here for the weekend..
Do a marsh Spec fishing trip right outside New Orleans.
Call this guy Capt Ron Hope
Any 18 year old would enjoy a quick walk down Bourbon I am sure.
Pick up a muff and a bargs at Central Grocery and enjoy it on a park bench on the river front.
Check the Resturant guide if you want a nice dinner one night.

Kajungee, have you used him before? I'm looking for a good charter/trip with my kids.

Been out with him twice, always put us on fish and he is a fun guy to fish with.

Take him around to explore the quarter, WWII musuem, take a riverboat, cafe du monde, grab lunch on magazine. There are a bunch of things for your son to do with you.

Is he a history buff? The World War II Museum is great, and there are lots of casual restaurants in the area.
Definitely walk down Bourbon. Buy a t-shirt. Visit Jackson Square. Have your fortune read, but don't bet any of the kids that they know where you got your shoes! Have coffee and beignets at Cafe du Monde. Listen to the jazz musicians. Walk through the French Market. Central Grocery for a muffaletta and a jar of olive mix to take home.
In BR, go to Sammy's, get crawfish.

From personal experience don't take him to burbon to go in to bars or the skin bars because he wont get in anywhere even with you. He can only get into Pat O's and Razzos. Everywhere else is 21+, I am 21 but my friends aren't and you wont have fun walking down Bourbon. I agree on the spec and red fishing trip. I always enjoy doing that with my dad no matter how old I was.

I like the fishing idea. $550 for 2 people. Is offshore really that much more though?
And maybe a shorter time in NO.
He has been to BR a lot (Sammy's, George's etc.) so I wanted to branch out a bit.
