Yeah, there are many things that are different for sure. But what I was getting at is that if he bought an all grain kit now, the only things he would be able to use at this point are things that come with a basic extract kit. A mash tun or a wort chiller are not necessary at this point and as you mentioned, it is a very add-equipment-as-you-go type hobby.
