i'd say hustle more than anticipation, but both were important

if you are hard-nosed and try really hard, you can get a lot of rebounds. look at kevin love

yes, you need anticipation to put yourself in position, but rebounding is mostly effort and positioning

Don't remember specifically where I read it cuz it was years back but I read he use to study video tape of all his teammates misses. He watched so much tape that he knew when a certain player shot from a certain spot on the floor he knew where the rebound would go. So if Pippen was shooting from the top of the key and the majority of his misses went left off of the rim, as soon as Pippen went to shoot that shot Rodman would go to that area of the court. He played the percentages. You combine that knowledge with his athletic ability and drive and you have a rebounding machine
