I have read bad review about the Stihl's lately, but I believe it is probably all brands and ethanol related. I don't think you can go wrong with Stihl or Echo, just try to find some ethanol free gas to put in it.

Got an Echo for a wedding present. After 15 years it is on its last leg, but it ran great for a loooong time. I've seen its replacement Echo at Home Depot. Around $200-225.

My dad has a stihl weedeater that i've become very familiar with over the years. I'm 24 now and he got it back when i was 17 or 18. Still runs like a champ. Used it last summer around his house to earn a few bucks. It's atleast 6 years old.
