Still wondering about our coaching staff's feel for the pitchers...

Guy comes in in relief of your starter. Who you let give up a half dozen runs, by the way.
But, that's not what's really mystifying me. You let a kid throw two scoreless innings, and then yank him.
So, you let your starter sit around and give up a half dozen-for the 2nd week in a row.
You yank the reliever after he throws two scoreless.
Is the kid just not able to throw long relief? What am I missing here?
The rhyme & reason with our coaching staff in relation to our feel of the pitchers they've got on this team is something I simply cannot understand.
We've played less than 30 games, and in multiple crucial situations, I've been left wondering what we're doing.
I don't want this post to be critical as much as I want someone to help me understand what we're doing. If I'm overlooking or not aware of something, I'd hope someone would let me know.
I just don't get it. Can anyone explain the coaching and decisions regarding our pitching?

The only answer is fire Grewe and fire PM obviously...

maybe didn't want to have any relief pitchers throw too many innings tonight so they could be available tomorrow...and they probably will be needed tomorrow

If they win today, you'll still feel this way?

Yes, this has been a pretty obvious issue all year. It just didn't hurt us til the first UF game.

4.18 Team ERA and climbing fast...not good in a new "pitcher friendly" bat era.
With these bats, I would consider a 4.18 ERA equivalent to a 5.18...maybe a little more.
Not good
PS- without McCune we are mirroring last year's God awful staff.

We lack experience on the mound. We have not developed any starting pitchers that were recruited from their freshman yr. over the past few years. We shouldn't be relying on freshman as starters. If the coaching staff was doing their job we would have some quality jr & soph arms that have grown with our program.

Aside from our weekend starters, there seems to be no clue. I'm baffled by the same thing. I'll be waiting for someone to explain it to me too.
You yank a guy who's shutting them down, and leave a guy in who's getting killed later. Confused to say the least.

If Alsup starts, which the paper says he will, today...LSU will lose...he is out of rthym on his pitches...sorry, that's just how I see it...

Mainieri has always been worst at this part of the game.

One thing that sucks is we haven't given too many chances to a couple of other pitchers early in the season to go long innings. Now we are around halfway through the season and only a handful of guys have starting experience this season...which means a lot considering how young we are. Hopefully Alsup will step up today and prove to be a solid starter for the rest of the season.

Other than Berry who comes in for a limited relief role, Alsup has clearly been LSU's 2nd best pitcher this season behind McCune.
If pitching Alsup is an automatic loss, then that pretty much means LSU should lose every single SEC series from here on out.

There is no one at LSU that is a pitching coach. Being given the title doesn't mean you suddenly have the knowledge that is required to do the job.

I'd honestly like to see what berry could do if given 3 or 4 innings of work. He looks damn good so far, why not?
