Onto the quarterbacks, who I spent a lot of time watching (SEE FLIP VIDEOS BELOW): I thought today was one of Zach Mettenberger’s better days throwing it. No. 8 looked comfortable and his incredible zip on the ball was evident. Most of the routes thrown today were shorter. As opposed to other days when they seem to be working on corners and fades, today was more concentrated on shorter timing routes — 5-yard quick outs, 7-10 yard buttonhooks, 7-10 yard dig routes. Jarrett Lee looked as consistent as they come, and Jordan Jefferson had a nice day as well, though he did throw behind a receiver or two. Be sure to watch all three below as they’re forced to get the ball out of their hands quickly (mostly from the shotgun position). And, in a repeat performance from one of our Tuesday videos, Russell Shepard again makes a ridiculous stab — this time a one-hander reaching over his head near the sideline in the “Quick Outs” video.

But In those three videos, I would have to place the 3 at

1a) JJ
1b) Mett
2) Lee

I wonder if he is basing Lee's consistency on something other than those videos, because he looked the most erratic on 2 of the three clips.

Lee looked better on the dig routes of the three, but I thought Jefferson edged on the short/intermediate routes. Mett looks like he is allllllllmost there, just not quite.

He is going to be something special.

I just need to see them in a game situation. . .when JJ's release and Lee's back-foot are on display.

If JJ can speed up his release (won't happen), and if Lee can step into his throws(yeah, right). . .they can be really, really good. Until then, they will have to be serviceable placeholders for Mett, imho.

For some reason, nobody can throw it to him.

Seems like every errant throw is to Shep.

I think Shep has been reading some of the starting WR threats on the rant, damn nice catch.

IMO, nothing really looked good in those videos. Seems like JJ/JL has been doing this for years now, same thing every year. I mean, if they're not throwing smoothly in situations where nobody is in their face, does anyone really think we'll see a huge improvement come game time? I just accepted them for what they are. Just as long as they're average and get the ball to open WRs, we'll be a good offense.

I thought all of them had some nice throws. Of the 3 I thought Lee was the most consistent. He had one really bad pass that was obvious. Jefferson seems to be the same. Makes some nice passes and rarely makes a horrible pass but throws a lot of passes that are low or a little behind the receiver which in a game situation end up a dropped pass or one yard short of a first down. He hit one guy on a dig route at his feet which counts as a completion but probably a drop in a game. Mett looks to be developing nicely and made some nice throws along with a few questionable ones. One of the button hooks he had one that was behind the receiver and high which will get picked in a game if the defender is quick enough. Just my thoughts but I would say Lee, then Mett then Jeff all really close and no clear leader. Jeff may edge them out b/c of his feet and thats my main fear. 2010 all over again.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't read anything into them either. Long way to go until September.

Suprise, surprise, suprise. Roaad disses Lee yet again.

In 3 videos, not one pass thrown by Lee that wasnt caught. JJ had two that were uncatchable. Mett had one that was questionable. A few drops, but all were catchable.

Here are the facts for the unbiased:

Video #1: 3 catches for JJ, 2 for Lee (nice catch on 1 by Shep), drop and bad pass for Mett

Video #2: 2 catches for Lee and Mett, and a catch, drop and an uncatchable pass for JJ

Video #3: 2 catches for Lee, catch and a drop for Mett, uncatchable and 2 caught for JJ

Totals:
Lee - 6 for 6
JJ - 6 for 9
Mett - 3 for 6

you're seriously analyzing spring practice video for completion percentage against no defenses?

No shite, the QB play was the worst I have seen at LSU. Good thing we had two of them.

Louie would rather have 4 or 5 losses than play Lee. And he thinks throwing uncatchables passes in practice won't be a concern when there are defenders all over the field, waiting to pick those off.

Fans like that are worthless. They are not fans, they are conditional, and player specific. I bet Louie was suicidal after the UF game last year.
