My brother and i want to take my nephew camping, but can't find a good place to go.

We want a place where they might have basic amenities, but not too much, and not a whole lot of people. Definitely need to be able to have a fire, and want to be able to set up tents on the ground. No concrete slabs, electricty, etc. Basically nothing more than you would have at a scout camp like Salmen Scout Reservation / Camp V-Bar in Mississippi.

My brother lives in Shreveport, i'm in Baton Rouge.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Valentine Lake around Minden La. Great place to tent camp, all sites right on the lake. Never been there when there were more than 2 other campers.

LINK

Possible state record bass caught from the lake.

There is also always Chicot State Park around VIlle Platte. Great state park with good fishing & great facilities.

I'll 3rd it. The primitive area has some great sites. I really miss it and can't wait to get one of those spots while we also have a camper spot.

Lake Fausse Pointe in the basin has primative campsites on the hiking trails. There are fire rings, a tent pad, and grills.
