okay, before Spring football gets going too much and the baseball season keeps going in whatever direction it might, thought I'd take a stab at one more basketball post.

In my best Bob Knight voice "I'm sick and tired of not making the NCAA tournament, or at least the 'bubble' or NIT !" I have read about some recruits coming in for next year, but waht gives me pause about that is how Ralston Turner was a somewhat highly recruited player, but his development was questionable at best. By no means am I for a second laying last season at Turner, just simply after the last two fiascos,I can't help but wonder what Johnson can really do with talented players.

What's a good guess at the starting five for the first SEC game ?

not sure if there are any starters left over from the '08-'09 team, but maybe there are.

It would be nice if he could develop some guys he recruited himself, though.

Stringer/Bass
Turner/Issac/Stringer
Derenbecker/Courtney
O'Bryant/White/Ludwig
Hamilton/Warren

It has been said that TJ is looking at a JUCO PG Sam Grooms or two freshman PGs Josh Swan or Dylan Tally.

And we expect that group to compete for an SEC title?

that was to your brilliant retort about Marcus Thornton.

Okay,so you love Johnson and think he's a great coach. You've none nothing other than show your behind in this thread.

Who on this year's team or coming in next year will help us turn the corner ?

PG is the question mark

Turner
Derenbecker (He will get stronger just like dotson did this season, but will actually utilize it)
Obryant
Hamilton

Coach Johnson deserves a lot of the criticism he receives and I would agree with his firing after next season without some very significant improvement. However, the one thing that cannot be questioned is his recruiting and development of Ralston Turner.

Turner was one of the best freshmen in the SEC, despite having marginal point guard and post play. His only span of non-productive play was a period when he was injured.

Bitch all you want, but don't make things up from scratch.

I would assume they will be a little better next season. Still not NCAA tourn or NIT worthy, but better. About midway through the season, the sunshine pumpers will say wait till next yr, while the tards will demand TJ be fired.

people were bad mouthing Thornton his JR year saying he was lazy and out of control. Johnson got a hold of him and he started playing defense, diving for loose balls, playing within the system.

Good point. I worded what I said very poorly. You are correct.

The guy starts bashing someone else with the disclaimer that he doesn't know all the facts. That is ignorant.

It is a stupid thread to begin with and I don't see you jumping in with a wealth of information

If we don't start playing defense or rebounding, it won't really matter who comes in.

Sorry but everytime I look at that signed Final Four basketball from a couple of years ago and think about the 1986 tournament games I watched at the Assembly Center, my opinion that TJ should be gone increases. A break even season after 4 years = FIRE HIM.

It's better than this year. The question is how good will O'Bryant and Hamilton be. If they can make their presence down low a factor, Turner and Stringer should be able to start making shoots from outside. And word is that Issac is a really good shooter too. PG is still the queston.

No one wants Trent to succeed and the team to win more than I do. But, O'Bryant will be one year out of high school. Unless he's monumentally gifted, he'll need some time to get up to speed. Hamilton shouldn't be subject to being an instant All-American, either. He wasn't in that league. Even if he's a great player, he will be coming off a year of not playing. I hope that it all works.
