I have been dating a girl for 5 years, we are pretty much married, but cant yet for certain reasons(and no, has nothing to do with kids ) and i do what i want with my money

It will change once you get married and y'all share the responsibility for bills. It is pretty selfish to buy an expensive object without consulting your partner beforehand.

We each have our own spending accounts to remove this conflict for smaller purchases, but large purchases, we still consult the other. It is what marriage is about.

Things change with marriage.

My wife is the type that she'll eventually cave in to whatever I want. We both work, no kids, and up until this year she made more money than me. I'd rather convince her that I, err WE, "need" the gun than impose my will on her and have her resent me for it.
