Exactly. People always seem to think guns. But look at it from a cost/time standpoint for them. Would you rather go house to house to people who have bought the firearm on record and ask them to present it for tagging (or confiscating or whatever the frick they would want) and have most people say they pawned it or lost it (as I would) and they couldn't do shite about it.
OR:stop selling ammo, or certain kinds of ammo, or jack the prices up so high no one can afford it and it's done. You can have all the guns in the world but if you don't have bullets who gives a frick.
And how many people reload? Sure there are some but the vast majority, me included, does not. But I need to start now that we are talking about this

What's even worse is that won't stop every nut job from getting a gun.
Hell, the Arizona guy was arrested twice and rejected from the Army due to drug use, yet his charges were dismissed and nothing from the military records showed up. He was kicked out of college and told to get a mental evaluation but never did.
People are going to slip through the cracks no matter what you do.
If you tell them they can't buy guns, they'll buy a machete and hack 4 or 5 people to death.
If they can't do that, they'll find a gun somewhere else. Thugs sell guns on the street for cash with no background check all the time.

Exactly why I've started stockpiling.

The problem is, documented where? There is no existing database from what I know.

Bingo. New laws will only stop law abiding citizens from purchasing legal firearms. Felons can't get them legally as it is but that doesn't stop them from getting them.

Ask any gun broker if a spike in gun sales corresponds in a spike in gun crimes. The answer is no no no no no every time.

Good question but I don't know the answer. I figure in something similar to your criminal database. IMO I wouldn't see any problem with that. If someone for another reason has been admitted to a mental institution for aggression/assault type issues or is suicidal then they do not need a firearm. This is my opinion, not trying to prove anything. I am 100% pro gun I promise
BUT crazy people do not need them IMHO.

Reloading isn't going to help. The component will be impossible to find. That's what happened after Obama took office. People bought up all the primers/brass/powder and you simply couldn't get them.

I believe that California has already enacted a law stating that you can only buy X number of rounds in a given year or something like that. They have serial numbers attached with each box you buy and your name is put in a registry of sorts to track how much you have purchased.

Holy frick. How is that not against the 2nd amendment?
Eta: And where is the NRA and gun lobby for that? That is absurd.

Next they'll want to tax guns and ammo to pay for a national psych data base.
Damn, I hate me some liberals.

It is. Apparently it got shot down by a judge back in January. I had just heard about it sometime last December. They were gonna ban internet sales, make people provide retailers with fingerprints, and require all ammunition purchases to be registered with the state.

California kicked the NRA out of their state along with god and common sense.

NICS is the system the the FFL call when you fill out forms to purchase guns from a dealer. the system is supposed to find any kind of hang ups or negatives(convictions, mental screenings, military service stuff, even restraining orders). the only laws that i would recommend that would benefit without taking away from lawabiding citizens would be mandatory reporting of any recommended psych evals(as in the case of the az shooter)by all major organizations(military, commercial, medical), reporting of any failed psych evals by any organization or doctor(military, commercial....)
another part, which will piss some off, reports from teachers/professor/classmates should be evaluated by whoever would be qualified on campus. this is a reach, but if you overheard some of the conversations of the people i go to school with at southeastern, you would be a little nervouse as well. this is boderline invasion of privacy somewhat, but if there was a reporting system that came from school officials, then the az and va shootings may have been avoided.

I hear what you're saying, but can you imagine how much of a clusterfrick that would be? Not to mention how subjective. I'm pretty damn sure that if anybody from the OB sat in some liberal arse professor's class room with a bunch of California whackos we would all be reported as completely insane.

:turn sarcasm meter on: people don't kill people, guns kill people :turn sarcasm meter off:
The unfortunate reality is this is truly what many people out there think (I believe Obama might be on of them).
