we see simon take the other cb spot and leave TM inside to keep making plays?

That's what a lot of people think is going to happen, myself included.

100% TS and MC are gonna be a great duo.
And of course TM is gonna be ball hawking like a vulture.

Agreed....I know the other half want to see Ty matt on the other side of claiborne....Its not that I dont think Ty matt can be the 2nd corner its just that Simon can too and ty mat to roam around is money.......Can this kid really do more than he did last year!!!??

it'd be tough. but he made too many plays to ignore. he was everywhere and we need more of that. at least until we see if we have a DT that can disrupt like nevis.
and simon, may end up being the best cb out of this group before it's all said and done.

If there are 2 CBs on the field, I believe Tyrann will be one of them.
Then once we go to nickel and dime packages he can move around the field. If we use these packages like last year that will be a lot

That makes two of us. Simon really came on as the year progressed. He got some serious skin in the game against Alabama.
He also played well in the Bowl Game.
But, I don't think this is so much about Simon at corner as it is Mathieu at Nickel.
LSU has question marks after Ryan Baker, and that-along with who steps up at Safety & on the interior of the DL-is a huge storyline as to how Chavis & Co are going to set this defense up.
If Minter can't "get it" as he's rumored to have trouble doing last year, & Barrow can't step up and be the man. Or, if Francois & Hatcher don't become credible players at the Hybrid LB spot in Chavis' system, then you're going to see LSU run Nickel almost as a base defense.
Putting Mathieu on the field in the nickel position is giving the Tiger Defense the player Danny McCray never quite became.
He's just too good in coverage-though he has something to prove after some late season miscues at Arkansas (that 4th & 2 TD was a play where Petrino brilliantly burned poor Tyrann. No sleight to him, but he was fooled bigtime) and a comeback performance against A&M-and really great at getting to the QB to keep him off the field if we can't reliable play from our 2nd & 3rd LB's in Chavis' system.
Gotta keep him at Nickel to ensure we get as many playmakers on the field as necessary.

Yea real tough....stats didnt do ty justice, so many more plays that he made happen.....Footballs are not safe when he is close.
Simon, yeah he looks like he can be really good....hips need to be worked on a little but him being so tall may not be able to do anything about it.
I would like to see Loston step up this year to show us why he was the #1 safety in the nation.

Damn I love LSU defense!!!

Honestly, I would be really excited if that happened because I don't think that Tyrann is big enough to play on the outside. But Tarold is a big strong fast corner that showed great instincts I thought in his few appearances. Tyrann is great don't get me wrong I love the kid he is a beast but he is at his best in the nickle spot. If he does win the #2 corner spot I hope Chavis does what Green Bay did with Charles Woodson and whenever they go to a 3 corner set move Tyrann inside and put Tarold on the outside.

Either way we are safe!! but I just dont see Chavis taking tyrann out of a role he thrived in......At corner as we saw a team can take the player out of the game (patrick peterson) Ty is a playmaker...wouldnt be surprised if he went out and said put simon at corner and keep me where i'm at.... hes a lil troy polamalu!!

Simon could definitely be solid at CB. The only thing I worry about is his make-up speed. The little bit he played last year, he had a tendency to try to overpower guys at the line. With his size, it's understandable, but it leaves him at risk of being burned. I think with this year under his belt, he'll play a little more conservative and maybe give up a little more underneath (like Peterson eventually learned to do).

With Hatcher moving to LB our safetys need to step up which I fully expect them to do and bring back the greatness in play of our previous Safeties..Landry, stelts, etc
