I heard a rumor re: Shaq that he's never touched his NBA earnings. They've been in the bank his entire career, and he's lived his entire playing career based off of his endorsement deals only.

Dude's been paid way, way more than a quarter of a billion over the course of his career, and that's more than A-Rod's 10 year hum-dinger that sent the Rangers to the chopping block.

Now, imagine the interest if he's invested it conservatively, even after the downturn?
